Some days were Smarties, and some were nefarious Necco wafers.
Some cats let us dress them up in our love, and others let us dress them up like iridescent snails.
But for all its ups and downs, at Tabby’s Place, October is always a treat.
Granted, Chaz would contend that “a treat” is a tragic nugget. It is the snack equivalent of an orphan kitten. You might even say a treat is in a hopeless situation. The only remedy is to reunite it with the hundreds of treats who can help keep it warm. In Chaz’s stomach.
But October was crowded with kindnesses. Actual angels arrived in convincing “adopter” costumes. The cats from summer’s colonies lowered their masks to breathe the sweet air of trust.
Chaz received dozens of treats, and learned that he can accelerate this process by high-fiving us and making faces that make Muppets jealous.
All of which bodes well for November.
You know what I am talking about.
We are on the eve of the eve of the eve of an election. Whatever happens on Tuesday, the cats will be counting on us come Wednesday. They will be listening for our laughter from the laundry room. They will tilt their ears to make sure our friendship is sturdy.
They will still need us, and we will still need each other. I’m your goofus Development Director, and I approved this message.

Stuff We Learned: Sometimes things turn out better than we hoped. This means we need to feed our hopes a better breakfast. You know Jack? (You didn’t know Jack, but now you do.) You know his paralyzed larynx, a potentially life-shortening sorrow?
Well, pull out that special eraser that rubs out Sad. Jack does not have a paralyzed larynx. Jack has partial inflammation. This is the equivalent of thinking someone just handed you a tub of expired Miracle Whip, but when you open the lid, it’s full of sparkly marbles that look like little planets. Now Jack gets to rule the world.
In his forever home. (He’s headed there this weekend.)
Now we remember to hope big.
Between the election, the perseverance of green bean casserole, and that ghastly Guns n’ Roses song about November Rain, this month is a mixed bag. But never forget who’s got everything under control. That’s right, Cavatappi (pictured at left).
Now we just need to all hold onto each other. We can do this.
October arrivals and adoptions – wonderful! Heaven must have been needing some fuzzy Angels, rest well, our little beloveds. I read a new book, and found a GREAT new cat name – I’m donating it to Tabby’s Place. JAMMIES!
