Kitty LeFey’s Cosmos: Gee Willikers

Kitty LeFey’s Cosmos: Gee Willikers

Golly! Gee willikers! Will somebody adopt these cats already?!

In no uncertain terms, it is utterly astonishing that Ruchi and Bello still grace the lobby. Prescott is still the sole princess with dual citizenship. Silver’s shining sweetness still lights up the Community Room. Our hearts have not yet been broken over Olive, Gator, Steven, Marcia, or Anka.

What gives?

Also, Shaggy? Nirvana? Juel? Okay, I kinda get it about Juel, whose litter habits are non-existent, and Steven, whose litter box habits are as creative as Juel’s. But, Taylor Ham? Chicken Nugget and Cornbread, that perfect pairing? Leo, with his very big cat face?

It is a mystery that the magnificent Moo Moo is still a resident. So too for the lush, grey Miss Kitty. And what about the adorable and active tripod Tootsie?

Flummoxed.
Confused.
But, also not.

These residents came from situations that could have been hopeless had it not been for Tabby’s Place and the largess of love demonstrated by staff, volunteers, sponsors, and donors of all kinds. Having the privilege of living a short drive from the sanctuary has provided the opportunity for me to really get to know these mentioned cats and many more. As such, it is easy to forget that in erasing “hopeless,” there are sometimes smudges of needs left behind.

Cats of advanced ages or advanced needs or both require adopters of a special kind of magnificence in order to be welcomed with open eyes and hearts into forever homes.

Yes, it is a big ask.
Yes, it is a tall order.
Yes, it is daunting.
Yes, it would be a most amazing gift to oneself and to a fabulous feline (or three).

As a noted time of giving arrives, the gift of a forever home would not be one to give in haste or on a whim. Yet, such a gift would exemplify what lies beneath the reasons for the many gift-giving holidays that wrap up autumn and usher in winter here in the northern hemisphere. But, golly, it would be quite an undertaking to bring home an advanced needs cat, even one of the belly boys, like Hips, who all provide the gift of enjoying tummy rubs.

But, gee, it would be good to know that the amazing Tabby’s Place Adoptions Team would provide support every step of the way. They and other stellar staff members would supply any necessary training. This is true at any season, even with the simplest adoption of a robustly healthy kitten (or 2) going into a home that is well-prepared and where there are no other pets requiring integration.

Maybe this whole idea is a bit off kilter.
Maybe this giving season isn’t the time for such poignant adoptions.
But, by gosh, is there a better time?
By golly, would it ever be easier?

There could never be a more meaningful at any time than at every time. Gee willikers!
When is the right time for somebody to adopt these wonderful, lovable, amazing cats?
