“Give it the old college try.”
“Try to see it my way.”
“Try, try, try to understand.”
“Try a little tenderness.”
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
“These are the times that try men’s souls.”
“This is trying my patience.”

Frankly, I don’t know what I’m doing anymore.

But, I’m trying…every day. Double meaning intended. “Trying” as in making attempts at something, anything. “Trying” as in something difficult (because quarantining with a neurotic, overthinking, excessive talker is a picnic the park). So, there you have it: Trying v. Trying. It’s all so tiring. We humans TRY, and all too often it feels “too much, too little, too late to try again.”

On the flip side: Cats. Oh, those fuzzy philosophers. Oh, those wonderful beings that prove Jedis are real!

“Do or do not. There is no try.”

Luna doesn’t TRY to get your attention. Luna exists to be noticed by passersby. Luna responds to opportunities to be noticed with an adorableness that cannot be ignored, even if one were so inclined.

Carley Rose doesn’t TRY to get her attendants to dote on her. Carley Rose simply presents herself on a counter. TRY passing up the offer of that sweet little head. I double-dog…pardon me…I double-cat care you!

Boom (Boom-sauce. Too much Boom for the room. BOOMER!) doesn’t TRY. Boom is. And we obey. I mean, Boom.

June climbs. Dani climbs. Neither needs to TRY. And, if any apparent attempt seems to go awry, well, that’s in the eye of the beholder. The doer simply did a thing a little differently than said beholder expected. Those instances fall under the category of “I meant to do that.” And the beholder is smitten with the kitten who cast that marvelous spell.

Once again, we Tabby’s Placers have the benefit of the best teachers. If we pay attention, we’ll all pass Philosophy 101-TP with flying colors, and we’ll barely have to try.
