Lyrical gangsta and all-around awesome human Albert Schweitzer supposedly said the following:
“There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.”
Boots is insulted by the absence of clarinet music on this list, but Boots will get over it.
I’d dare say there are more than two, but I’d dare not disagree with Albie that those two are tops.
Where would we be without cats and music? Would we have even made it to 2017?* When all the ink is finally spilled over what did and didn’t happen in 2016, I earnestly hope the music is not forgotten.
And so, since you come here primarily for cat news, but secondarily for raging music recommendations, I’m pleased to bring you Disc 2 of delight today, a cat-selected smorgasbord of songs that made for moments of sanctuary in 2016.
Yes: back by popular demand because I wanted to do it and I write this blog, the cats bring you another year of Music For Cats For Music. In no particular order, allow ten of our treasures to share their most-loved lyrics of the year that was.
In the cold light, I live to love and adore you Its all that I am, its all that I have In the cold light, I live, I only live for you Its all that I am, its all that I have
There ain’t no man that can save me There ain’t no man that can enslave me Ain’t no man or men that can change the shape my soul is in There ain’t nobody here Who can cause me pain or raise my fear ’cause I got only love to share If you’re looking for truth I’m proof you’ll find it there
So we hold to who we are Even into the arc Beyond our furthest edges
Sing on beyond your furthest edges, friends. There is much music to make in 2017.
*Of course we would not have made it to 2017, or 1917, and certainly not 717. 716 was a corker, but 717 was lit.
Bonus lyric from the cat for whom it could have been written: Sia, The Greatest, as selected by Bucca:
I’m free to be the greatest, I’m alive I’m free to be the greatest here tonight, the greatest The greatest, the greatest alive The greatest, the greatest alive
At night, after all the humans have left for the day and the lights are turned off, the cats all get together in little groups and form the Tabbynacle Choir!
Right now, we have a special opportunity for donations to be matched, up to $22,000.
Tabby’s Place rescues sweet seniors who have nowhere else to turn. Their hearts are full of love, and these gentle souls deserve tenderness, respect, and excellent care.
Please give from your golden heart, so senior cats can have happy golden years. Your donation will go where it is most needed.
Harriet, age 16, was once forgotten and alone. A car accident left her with life-threatening injuries. But the best days of Harriet’s life were ahead: she became a Tabby’s Place cat.
Surgery saved her life, and love mended her broken heart. Today, this shaggy sweetheart reigns in our Executive Director’s office, receiving world-class care for her kidney disease and arthritis. Steven, age 15, has lived at Tabby’s Place all his life. He may have numerous Special Needs, but Steven is as happy as springtime itself. Our little “elder statescat” is thriving through his golden years, enfolded in love and adored by all.
WOW! Yes, music and cats do shape my world! Anneke, you are adorable. And Bucca, you are an inspiration.
