At its best, being grown up is having a second childhood. You can have all the fun with a side of wisdom, and, hopefully, you can enjoy some seriously cool toys. But, it takes time to get there, for people and felines alike.

Tabby’s Place maintains a variety of “behavior logs.” If you are a cat, these are not the place you want to be. No, that’s not right. If you are a cat, these are exactly where you aspire to be.
Hymns and psalms and chorales and chants are all different kinds of songs. All are music to the ears, and at Tabby’s Place, those are just the beginning.
C.S. Lewis once compared cats to Pharisees, which is essentially saying what we know to be true. So, when Lewis said, “You Can Never Get A Cup of Tea Large Enough or A Book Long Enough to Suit Me,” it’s clear he was talking about feline paralysis.
We are not in control.* We are not as powerful as cats. But we are not entirely helpless.
When a cat oozes around your ankles, it is not just a plea for food or attention (oh, it is definitely partly either or both of those). When a cat slides or somersaults down the stairs, it’s not simply to show off beauty and agility (although it is most definitely both of those).
How are you holding up, kittens? Are grit and grace and determination holding you together like so much magical nougat, or is the cheese sliding off your cracker?
OK, kittens. I’m afraid I have to be the heavy today. Brace yourselves; they don’t call me Angela The Enforcer for nothing.
Actor and singing powerhouse Billy Porter has a name that puts me in mind of entertainment legends Billie Holiday and Cole Porter. I wonder whether this was intentional or a happy accident. Without knowing one way or the other, Schrodinger would accept my stipulation that both are simultaneously true.
There is a light that never sleeps. No, not that one. I’m talking about a freaky purple light that should really consider a nap now and again.
