Kitty LeFey’s Cosmos: Simply Sweet

Looking to add a little sweetness to your life? Look no further than Tabby’s Place. As many of you are aware, Tabby’s Place is no ordinary shelter. It is a sanctuary. Sanctuary means shelter and also refuge, haven and also inner sanctum. It is a place of peace. It is the sanctum sanctorum, the holy of holies, for the cats whom we worship.

There is no question that the cats of Tabby’s Place know great love – often from each other, yes, but especially from us. The question is: why do we adore these felines so very much? The short answer is that we all have an undeniable sweet tooth. Make no mistake, we love our crunchy, crispies with big personalities and strong opinions. We adore our Alessia and our Anka, who will show their sweetest selves until they’re ready to shake on some hot sauce. But, it is the sweetness that keeps us coming back for more.

“More” comes in varied types of sweet. Just as table sugar (sucrose), saccharine, stevia, and other alternatives provide varying levels of sweetness, the cats of Tabby’s Place range in sweetness from the lightest clover honey to dark, heavy molasses. It sometimes takes several visits to detect the full depths of flavor. Other times, it hits hard and fast like having cake frosting stuck to the soft palate.

Brian is one cat whose sweetness was readily apparent as soon as he was introduced to his suite. Even so, there was just a touch of piquancy as he adapted to his new environment and made overtures to his suitemates. Most recently, Brian has shown that balance is delicious. This is especially true now that he is learning to be a lap cat. It takes Brian a very little coaxing and a little more time to decide to step upon then settle into a lap. Once there, the face rubs on arms, the snuggles, the resettling, and the resumed cuddling drizzle honey across an afternoon.

In the adjacent suite, Smokey awaits an opening. Literally, he waits for the door to the suite to open, so he can drown HIS visitor in the cat equivalency of high fructose corn syrup. Rest assured, there is nothing false-hearted about this little lover. His song isn’t Burl Ives’ song.

Smokey truly wants to give as much or more than he gets. He wants to give and get cuddles, even gently grabbing with soft paws if he thinks a snuggle might end too soon. All the while, his chirps and purrs express how much Smokey savors connections with anyone and everyone. Have no fear of drowning in this brand of sweetness. When our Smokey sings, we can all hear violins.
