Mae in February

Mae in February

We love naming cats, but we know they have their own unspoken names.

We love calling cats, but we know they call themselves something more beautiful.

We know cats keep their secrets, but every once in a great while, their name and our name are one and the same.

How else to explain the new, true name of a certain alum?

At Tabby’s Place, the silver tabby shone under the marquee name “Melee.” All winter, she giggled and wriggled around these five letters, tickled to share her name with commotion and chaos.

All winter, she answered to that name, knowing her season would come.

With all due respect to Punxsutawney’s meteorological rodent, it is Melee who correctly called the early spring. It is Melee who correctly called her own future beautiful. It is Melee who is now perfectly called Mae.

But don’t take it from me. Listen to her lovely, lovestruck new family:

“We nicknamed her Mae because of her gentle demeanor. She’s been such a wonderful companion so far; we absolutely love her.

“I’ve attached several photos of her favorite activity so far: napping on our laps, which she prefers to do in the morning and evening. It’s been a nice beginning and end to each day. (Other times, she will crawl into our laps, snuggle up on our chest, and start dozing off.) We love how affectionate she has been so far.

“She still likes being up high and climbing, but after looking out her favorite windowsill, she will sometimes take a breather on the floor for just a few minutes before moving to a new favorite spot.

The other spots include keeping our office chair warm for us, her favorite white blankie, and her favorite blue bench (also up high, where she can take in all her surroundings).”

It’s as clear as the first crocus: Mae’s favorite spot is her whole life with her new family.

Her favorite season is spring.

Love is blooming, and it has called Mae by name.

Thank you, amazing adopters.
