Some cats cause predictions to fall out of our mouths the minute they arrive at Tabby’s Place. “He’s not going to be here very long at all.” “This little girl is probably going to get adopted right out of Quarantine.” But the funny thing about predictions is, they can be profoundly wrong.
Sometimes it just doesn’t seem fair. Even when we get “bonus” time, unexpected “extra” time, with a very sick cat like Esme, goodbye still doesn’t seem right or okay when it comes.
Some cats won’t give a scary diagnosis the time of day. Tabby’s Place is blessed with a wealth of these death-defiers, and perhaps none is more charming, more adorable, or more downright peculiar than our tiny Esme.
The great philosopher Burt Bacharach once opined, “Only love can break a heart. Only love can mend it again.” Clearly Webster has his heart turned to that station, because new love is healing his hurts day by day.
As if it weren’t hard enough being itty-bitty, the youngest septet at Tabby’s Place has faced an especially severe indignity. Despite being “deities,” these seven siblings have fallen from grace into (dum-dum-DUM)…ringworm.
Tabby’s Place is far enough from the border that we’re safe from Montezuma’s revenge. We don’t feed the cats purple yam ice cream or pangolin brains. And there’s no need to get immunized against dysentery before visiting Ringoes, NJ. Despite all of this, our newcomers are still prone to the bane of travelers everywhere: tummy troubles.
Whereas: only 9% of cats in Tabby’s Place history have been tortoiseshells. Whereas: we are presently graced with no fewer than six torties. Resolved: this is cause for massive celebration.
