Autumn is in the eyes of the beholder.

Is it homework, or cardigans with pockets big enough to carry kittens?

Is it decay, or farm stands selling warty gourds with googly eyes?

Is it the last belch of the year, or a belated beginning?

You already know what the cats think of autumn. Autumn is when sleeves get longer and clothes get softer, the better for burrowing and snuggling. Autumn is when leaves shrivel like Cheetos and crackle into the Lobby, all crispy and pounce-able. Autumn is when blankets turn thicker, humans turn sentimental, and the night air smells like smoky bacon.

Autumn is when the Linda Fund lets you turn a yearning cat into your cat, personally saving his life.

But what really makes autumn awesome is that it exists.

You may have noticed that Tabby’s Place cats are passionate fans of existence.

Existence is where we all get to be together. Why would we wish for April or July when everyone we love is in September? Who the heck wants summer when autumn has all the currently-available cheeseburgers? And don’t you know that we all get to go “back to school,” even if we are forty-four or equipped with a tail?

Autumn says you can begin again.

So does every breath in your body, but let’s start with autumn.

So, save your laments for real tragedies, like the hot dog spill that shut down a highway. (The tragedy was that Tabby’s Place has experts trained for precisely this event, and none of them were called to assist.)
