Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot friends,

Carrot seems to be enjoying his senior home visits with his new traveling companion, Angelo. You can’t get much more laid back than these two boys, so they are a great team for visiting the seniors.  Carrot’s last 2 reports from his senior home visits read as follows:

“Carrot was a champ! He seems to know the Stonebridge home now, and sat up in his stroller and looked out as if he knew where he was going. Sat on laps, purred, and was a gentleman of a cat.”

“Carrot was very alert and happy to be petted. The residents recognize him now and loved petting him.”

I’m glad he accepted Angelo as his new Aged to Purrfection friend because they make a great team. Rose seems very content to just stay at Tabby’s Place and let the boys travel.

We have recently started our enrichment program up again. We had started this a while back but had to put it on hold until we could find enough willing volunteers to participate. We now have a full team of willing enrichment volunteers, so the cats can have various enrichment activities twice a week.

We do three kinds of enrichment for the cats—puzzle toys (stationary puzzle toys that we put treats or various scents in, to make the cats interact with them),  motorized toys (anything that has moving parts for the cats to chase, and wand toy play. The cats really seem to benefit from these activities, and start looking forward to enrichment playtime.

One of our wonderful volunteers started the motorized toys and wand toys in the suites. Some cats are very interested and want to play non-stop, others don’t have much interest. When our volunteer went into Suite C, can you guess the one cat who wanted to play? Carrot, of course. The other cats laid around, probably wondering when dinner will be served, but Carrot was up and in all the action. He loves enrichment play, and it’s so good for him, and all the cats who get involved. It gives them something to do and keeps their brains engaged.

Carrot has been back in his solarium most days, with his friends, Sparkly and Pancake. The weather has been very mild for this time of year, and the cats are making the most of it. Carrot and friends also know to go out to the solarium around feeding time, because there is usually only the 3 of them out there, so they avoid the mass rush that happens inside the suite.

Carrot and Wilbur seem to have called a truce for now. They really get on each other’s nerves, and it often becomes aggressive. But they seem to be settling down a little, and just staying out of each other’s way. We are now letting Wilber out at night (he was crated overnight, so he couldn’t cause any issues), and things seem to be going well.

Carrot has enjoyed good health all month, and I have nothing medical to report. He is a happy, healthy boy.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you all for everything you do for Carrot. We couldn’t do it without you.
