Greetings, Carrot Fans!
I have a very special announcement to make:
OUR BOY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
Yes, I am screaming! I have known and loved Carrot since his arrival at Tabby’s Place. This is huge news, and I couldn’t be happier for him!
As Carrot’s devoted sponsors, this amazing news has everything to do with YOU! Thank you for always believing in our boy, and for lavishing him with love so generously through the years. This day is only possible because of your devotion to Carrot!
As if the news of Carrot’s adoption weren’t enough, there are some happy “coincidences” to prove it was all meant to be. Let me tell you a little story.
I have worked with “J” for many years, and I know that he is a long-time Tabby’s Place supporter. His nephew, Johnathan, is in college and decided to start volunteering around January of this year. Johnathan instantly fell in love with Carrot!
J shared this with me at work and began showing me pictures that Johnathan would take of his visits with Carrot. Carrot fell in love with Johnathan as well and could often be found on his lap.
Now, you’ll remember from our March update that Carrot had written a letter of recommendation for a young gentleman’s college applications. This letter was for Johnathan (yes, he got in!).
Shortly after this, Johnathan’s mom, “B,” stopped in to tell me excitedly that they had submitted an application for adoption. I was super excited. But, I admit I was worried about Carrot’s special needs. I, myself, have never expressed a kitty’s bladder, but I do know it can be challenging.
Johnathan and B were up to the challenge!
They went to Tabby’s Place every morning and most evenings, to learn to express Carrot’s bladder. Some of our other residents (especially Boobalah and Regina) were kind enough to let Johnathan and B practice on them as well. Once they were comfortable with this, B and Johnathan were able to choose a date for Carrot to go home with them … and that day is today!
Johnathan shared a letter that he wrote to Carrot. I have his permission to share it with you as well, so you can feel the love:
Dear Carrot,
I am so excited to share some news with you that I could not wait! I am hoping my mom and uncle’s friend, Mrs. Nikki, will be able to get this letter to you before I see you.
First off, even though I thanked you before, I just wanted to say thank you again for your heartfelt letter of recommendation about me for business school.
I am so happy and wanted you to know that I have been accepted to Rutgers Business school, starting with the fall semester.
Now don’t go getting sad about this news and thinking you will not see me any more. It is all really good news I have to share with you, for a few reasons. Just so you know, I will be a commuter student, and I promise to continue to volunteer at the sanctuary. I have lots of fun visiting all of you, and I enjoy our special time together.
This brings me to the other part of my big news.
While I will continue to volunteer at Tabby’s Place, it looks like I will not be seeing you at the shelter on Thursdays anymore. I want you to know how special you are, Carrot … and it is because you are so special that I will not see you there anymore.
Every time I arrive at Tabby’s Place, I am nervous about going inside. While I really look forward to seeing you and hope are still there to greet me, it makes me sad to think that you do not have a real home with a family to love you. Walking in is a wave of emotion for me — will I see you, which I really want to do; or will they tell me you are one of the lucky kitties who has found his furever home with a real family?
Tomorrow when I get there, they are going to tell me that news that I have been dreading to hear. But this is the part where I hope you will get as excited as I am.
When I visit you, those pictures that I take — well I send them to my mom and my uncle, and tell them what you are up to. I have told my mom a lot about you, how great you are, and explained a little bit about your special needs.
Now here comes the big news Carrot, so hold onto your tail here …
Tomorrow when I visit you, I am bringing my mom with me to meet you (please try to be extra nice to her) ! I will let you in on my big secret: my mom and I applied to Tabby’s Place and asked to adopt the best kitty in the sanctuary to bring home to live with us furever.
Ms. Carolyn and Rey (part of the Adoptions Team) really, really considered this, and they told my mom “yes” — we can have everyone’s favorite kitty to take home. That, my little orange buddy Carrot, would be you!
Now here is where we are going to need your help. My mom and I have to learn how to take care of your special needs, which includes helping you use the litter box and take your bath. Please be patient with us while we learn how to do this. We are going to do our best to learn quickly and without hurting you, so that you can come live with us.
I really hope this will make you as happy as I am, Carrot. Once you live with me, we will be able to see each other every day! You can even sleep on my bed with me and my other kitty friend that I told you about, Izzy. I will warn you, she may might be a little jealous of you at first, but she will learn to love you like I do.
Can’t wait to see you, Carrot, and for you to meet my mom. As long as this is OK with you, you will be coming home to live with me very soon!
Lots of love,
Johnathan
Thank you for sponsoring our sweet Carrot and making this miracle possible, dear sponsors. As he heads to his adoring forever home today, he brings your love with him!
Your Correspondent,
Nikki
Since Carrot has found his forever family, your sponsorship has been transferred to another Special Needs cat in need: charming Prescott (who you can meet here). Like Carrot, Prescott overcame an injury early in life that left her incontinent. Today, Prescott frolics with constant enthusiasm through our Tabby’s Place Lobby.
If you’d prefer to choose a different cat to sponsor, you can meet them all here. Please feel free to email us if you’d like to transfer your support to a different kitty. (Otherwise, going forward you will receive updates on Prescott each month.)
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity to Carrot. You’ve helped to make this marvelous news possible for him, and we’re so grateful!
