Proposal: We agree to Boobalah’s idea of holding a luau in the Tabby’s Place lobby. It wouldn’t be quite a full-on, accurate representation of an actual Hawaiian luau, but it would be fun. Hear me out, for Boobalah’s sake.
Obviously, there wouldn’t be anyone blowing on a conch shell to start things off. But, maybe Murdock can blow on a trombone or a tuba…or a recorder. Okay, so the ceremonial aspect might miss on some of the ceremonies…and maybe on some of the food too
You see, Grecca reminded me that Tabby’s Place doesn’t have an oven, especially not an imu (an underground oven), except for a microwave in the lounge. So, for that reason and others, the traditional kalua pig would be off the menu. She did suggest that Bello might be willing to make poi using his biscuit making skills. Sensibly, Boobalah chimed in that the taro would probably be bad for his toe beans.
With a wink, Moo Moo volunteered to mix mai tais, and Hips offered to blend pina coladas. Olive reminded them that Tabby’s Place doesn’t have a bar.
Undaunted, Boobalah continued to insist that a lobby luau is a really great idea. And, there is no mind like a collection of feline minds to come up with something fantastic. This perked up Prescott’s ears. No cocktails? Fair enough. But, coming from Rhode Island and the land of Del’s, Prescott pointed out that she is very familiar with lemonade. Which point made Trent shout LEMONADE STAND BOYS!! A staple at recent events, the generous, loving brothers would surely sign up to make lemonade. They have often shown up before: squeezing lemons, adding water and sugar, then donating the proceeds from their delicious offerings to Tabby’s Place. Doubtless, some bakers would contribute too.
Even with willing volunteers and approval at the highest level (That would be Marcia, the Executive-Executive Director, who really runs the show from Jonathan’s office), it may be a wayward plan. Yet, luaus mostly require festivity, fun, and maybe some flowers. These things can be found in heaping portions at Tabby’s Place…well, except that flowers are mostly limited to bold prints on blankets and clothing. Close enough!
Alas! There isn’t an official Lobby Luau in the planning. But, there is now the idea of one. In the depths of winter, even an idea is a reprieve from the cold. Dream of warmth and sunshine, of tropical islands and beaches. Envision Boobalah and Olive wearing frilly diapers with Hawaiian prints. Watch a video to learn the hula. Then, when you’re ready, come visit Tabby’s Place. That’s when the real party will start.
I can see miniature leis for all the cats!!
