Whenever one of us would say Zatarain‘s name “normally,” the same way you might say “river” or “house,” Denise would gently correct us by saying it the right way: “Zaaaaa-ta-raaaain!” Yes, this little cutie is named for the rice, ”a New Orleans tradition since 1889.” Since being born 120 years after his namesake rice, Zatarain has […]
When it comes to questions fielded at Tabby’s Place, right up there with “don’t the cats fight?” and “how do you not adopt them all yourselves?” is this one: “Where do you come up with all of those names?” Ah, there are as many answers to that question as there are quirks among the Tabby’s […]
In case the written word doesn’t quite capture my tone, my use of the word unadoptable is entirely ironic. Except for the fact that, so far, it’s been weirdly accurate for one of the most outrageously “adoptable” kittens I’ve ever seen.
It’s always hard to lose a furry loved one. But some losses are harder than others and tend to haunt one forever. I think poor little Marlee may be one of those, even thought she was only with us for a week.

Which Tabby’s Place cat do you think has the most passionate following among our volunteers? Gregarious Fuzzy? The irrepressible Mittens? Snuggle-bug Cali? Or our famous tabby teenager, Tashi? How about a cat who (a) hisses and spits if you get too close to him, (b) poops in terror if you really get too close and […]
And the itty bitty kitty committee would be the first to agree. One of the first things I realized when I started spending a lot of time around tiny kittens (I know, a rough job, but someone’s gotta do it) is just how, well…tiny they are. Although your first (and, I dare say, correct) instinct […]
If you should stroll into Cafe Adoption Room #2 and find that you’re not in the mood for a Twinkie, a Trifle, a Cupcake or a Strudel, there’s now a fifth option on the menu of scared cats. The one and only Marischka has joined the cats rescued from the Chester hoarding situation – a.k.a. the […]
