Update for Shifty

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

It’s your pal, Shifty, putting “pen to paw” this month to share my own news.  Sometimes, my correspondent, Kim, allows me the pleasure of doing so.  Since COVID restrictions are still in place at Tabby’s Place (like my little rhyme?), she has not been able to visit with me as much as in the past months.

My ‘silent’ meow–was greeting a volunteer!

Speaking of not visiting, where IS everybody?

It is getting tough on me not to see my favorite human volunteers.  Now, let me make it clear that our wonderful staff is very attentive to me. But they have many other cats to which they must tend.  Once they rush off, I may not see anybody again for a bit.  I am content to take a siesta in the “Free Bin” under the coat rack, which is my new hang-out spot. However, I DO miss seeing those volunteers who will sit with me for a while, tell me how handsome I am, and assure me that Kim will visit as soon as it is permissible.

However, I DID have a surprise the other day, as deep in the middle of a snooze, I heard a familiar voice at the window, calling my name.  “Shifty, oh Shifty?!” came the love-call.  I jumped up to the cat tree, for a better look out the window.  There she was, that correspondent of mine, pushing a stroller with a big white cat inside.  I hear his name is Cotton, one of our paraplegic residents at Tabby’s Place that lives in the Lobby.  They were both looking in at me, and I was happy to see her smile and wave of enthusiasm.  Sure enough, when she was done, Kim came to sit with me for a bit.  She told me how much she had missed me, and how svelte I am!  That’s all I needed to hear.  I was glad that the outdoor temperatures had gone up enough for her to stroll again, which in turn means she can come IN to see ME!!

In the Free Bin again: time for a siesta

I am also feeling a bit lonely without my regular feline companion Simon.  You see, he was adopted about two weeks ago (at the time of this writing).  While everyone is always thrilled for the adoption of a Tabby’s Place cat, it can sometimes be hard on both the cats and the humans left behind.  I now spend my time with cats Samantha and Marjory.  But there was just something enjoyable about having another “guy-cat” to talk to…..

Before Simon got adopted

The staff has been keeping a special eye on me since Simon’s departure, to make sure I am ok emotionally.  As they say here, I am “status quo,” which is considered a good place to be at Tabby’s Place.  Kim says that with the snow melting and the blooming of springtime soon to begin, we will ALL be feeling a little better soon.  She has promised me a bird feeder, to watch from my cat tree.  This may also encourage me to get out of the Free Bin more often!  Stay tuned for future fun photos!

I remain very grateful for your most generous donations that help to keep me well and happy.  I hope that on a spring day sometime soon, YOU will stop by my window and say hello!

Look for the front window with the pretty new bird feeder; KIM just purchased it as an early birthday present to us both!

May spring bring its blessings to us all.

Love,
Shifty
