Update for Pepita

Dear kind and generous sponsors of sweet Pepita,

Happy Thanksgiving month!  We hope you can join us for Thanksgiving with the Cats, our annual event on Saturday, November 23rd, where you can take a tour, canoodle with the kitties, participate in a silent auction, and visit your gentle baby girl.  Though Pepita’s special diet means she won’t be allowed to eat some of the special ‘turkey’ treats prepared for many of the kitties, she will be anxious to see all the visitors pass by and feel the hubbub of the day.

I’m delighted to once again tell you that Pepita has been in good health this month!  The hair loss on her lower back is still present and still a mystery.  But she is always ready for love and hoping for the special treats that are permitted in Suite A.

As the weather has been more like winter than fall and the temperatures have dropped these last few weeks, like Adam, she is spending more time indoors these days. I’m always surprised to look in the solarium and not find our Miss Sweetie Pie.

I’ve mentioned in the past that Pepita will sometimes hide in the tube connecting the suite to the solarium when it is time for her to be expressed. This is particularly useful first thing in the morning. When we see one of the staff drumming on the side of the Suite A tube, they are likely trying to encourage Pepita (or Adam) to come out and be expressed.  You never know whether Pepita will be super cooperative and run to the litter pan to be expressed, or decide to be contrary and hide in the tube instead.  And sometimes Pepita just likes to hang out in the tube for fun, causing immense frustration for the other kitties who only want to pass by to go into the suite or out to the solarium!

The other big news in Pepita’s suite is that we are transitioning to a different GI (gastro-intestinal) kibble diet. The hope is that Mary and Cindy will no longer have to be crated overnight and those kitties with leaky bums (Abe, Boom, Adam) will produce less stool and be more comfortable.  Pepita is having a little less stool than she was, so this will make expressing time a bit more pleasant for her.

Pepita continues to delight the seniors through her visits as part of the Aged to Purrfection program.  What a great thing for her and for those she makes smile!

I decided to include a picture of one of Pepita’s suitemates, Chewbacca (fondly known as Chewie to us), as he looked so cute up on the ramp, celebrating Halloween. Pepita’s picture in her Halloween best was also fun to include.

Pepita and I know this month is a special time to, at a minimum, quadruple our thanks for all you do for Pepita and Tabby’s Place. It is through your kind and generous heart that we can provide our petite girl with all she needs to stay happy and healthy and spread her love to all the staff, volunteers, visitors, and Aged to Purrfection seniors. Thank you for the treasure of your love and devotion to Pepita. Have a very happy Thanksgiving.
