Dear kind and generous Pepita sponsors,
We’re thrilled that Pepita continues to enjoy a long stretch of stellar, newsless health. It’s been an age since Pepita’s last urinary tract infection, a great triumph after how endless they once were. Surely the sunshine warming the solarium can only help Pepita’s health, as she’s rarely indoors this time of year.
Today’s visit caught Pepita sprawled across the plastic chair that sits near the open side of the solarium. She wants to be as close as possible to the fresh breezes and warm sunshine, so she snagged this prime spot before one of her solarium buddies (typically Abe, Steven, Chewbacca, Adam, and Rorschach) could take it. Of course, there is also a ceiling fan in this particular solarium, so the breezes are doubled as the warm and humid days, like today, become more frequent.
The continuing exciting news for Pepita is that she has taken more steps toward becoming a true therapy cat and assisting in the Aged to Purrfection program, visiting the senior homes and spreading joy!
Our Volunteer Director, Karina, gave me the update: “Pepita passed the pet store test with flying colors! She just needs one more test outside at Tabby’s Place, then she will be officially in the program.” There is a small cadre of cats who are now officially certified as therapy cats at Tabby’s Place, with certificates, therapy bandannas, and badges. Recently, Pixie, one of the therapy cats and an adored paraplegic here, was adopted by a vet tech! We hear that Pixie is settling into her new home well. So Pepita will need to step up and help fill in the gap that Pixie left in the Aged to Purrfection program.
I’m looking forward to seeing her in pictures with the seniors and hearing how she brings them comfort and smiles. I’ve included a picture of her in the green stroller that is used to transport these special kitties around to visit the seniors. Your support of Pepita means you are also spreading joy beyond the walls of Tabby’s Place. This role will definitely enrich Pepita’s life, as well as the lives of many seniors.
June brought a newcomer into Suite A: Cindy. Cindy is a petite black-and-white kitty with a distinguishing set of dots around her little black nose. She has already made herself quite at home in the suite and is taking full advantage of the solarium, where she spent her time today on a long shelf on the towers that sit facing Cherny’s Garden. She’s quite friendly and seems to get along well with the other residents, which is always a very good thing!
Today I was surprised to see that our ‘kitten room’ was empty! Fear not, friends, we are not out of kittens! In fact, Saturday, June 22nd is our 6th annual Kitten Shower & Adoption Event, and the kittens will be flooding in from their foster homes, where they get to grow up a bit in a highly loving and supervised setting before being ready for adoption.
The Kitten Shower is a great opportunity to visit Tabby’s Place, play with the kittens (and our older kitties, too), enjoy tours and refreshments, and welcome our tiniest residents with a gift of litter, food, or other items from their wish list. If you live close by, please stop by from 12-4 PM that day to see all the cute and cuddly furballs. I guarantee your hearts will melt.
Thank you for all you do for Pepita each month. She is a happy girl and full of love in large part because of your caring heart. I will leave you with this wonderful quote about June and wish you a bloom-filled summer: “Green was the silence, wet was the light, the month of June trembled like a butterfly.” —Pablo Neruda
