Update for Luna

Dear Team Luna,

There is so much to tell you about our lovely Luna this month, I hardly know where to begin!

Following Luna’s lead, let’s discuss medical matters first:  After all, it’s always important to be professional, and that requires a little self-care (with oversight, of course) on Luna’s part. Our fair feline was losing some weight and wasn’t eating her hypoallergenic diet very enthusiastically, so we gave Luna an appetite stimulant. BAAAAD idea! It made her absolutely BONKERS! Luna is now trying a wet food sensitivity formula, and it seems to excite her palate a bit more than the strictly dry food diet she was on.  Of course, these changes were followed by an episode of loose stool, so Luna is on medication for that and it seems to be doing the trick.  Any dietary or prescription changes are always a tightrope walk for Luna, but we are happy to see her enthusiasm at mealtime improving.

As if these alterations weren’t enough, Luna continues to struggle with the shift from Clark to Angelo as a labmate.  You know, it was quite a lot of work getting used to a prima donna like Clark, only to have him leave, return, and then leave again!  Truth be told, we think Luna became a little bit sweeter on Clark than she’d like to admit.  And that’s not making her adjustment to Angelo any easier.

Luna has high expectations of any new lab mate, and they simply aren’t something Angelo is prepared to meet.  Before our wonderful Mary went to the Rainbow Bridge, she was Angelo’s constant companion in Suite A, and she showered him with unconditional love. There were no standards he had to meet, nothing he had to do—it was fine just simply being Angelo.  In Luna’s world, it’s a far, far different story. So, for now, things are at a bit of a standoff.  Frankly, Angelo finds Luna a little intimidating (actually, he’s scared of her — she hisses). Luna just doesn’t know what to think: Good help is just so darn hard to find!  If or when there is movement in the right direction, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

One way we’ve been able to keep the peace and divert Luna’s attention from Angelo’s “failings” is to take her on stroller rides.  She always enjoyed watching from her lab window as some of our other Tabby’s Place cats took trips outside so, why not?  Of course, most cats use their strolls as a time to rest and relax—but not Luna!  Ever the investigator, ever the explorer, Luna is hyper-vigilant on her forays into the natural world.

Quirky as ever, she became absolutely fascinated by the lawn mowing happening on the property behind Tabby’s Place this month. Strolling through Cherny’s Garden, she couldn’t take her eyes off the lawnmower—simply fascinating!  Her assistant stopped the stroller to let her watch and, as soon as the man and the machine were out of view, Luna fussed to get going again.  I guess when you’re a well-trained scientist keen on making observations, there really isn’t a moment to lose!

Thank you for making this girl so happy!
