Dear Carrot friends,
How is everyone doing? I hope you are all doing well, staying safe, and staying healthy.
At Tabby’s Place, we have now been operating for 2 months with basic staff and just 1 or 2 volunteers. We usually have around 25-30 volunteers a day, plus staff, so it has been a difficult adjustment. The staff is cleaning all the areas where cats reside and feeding the cats all day, administering their medications, and trying to give them some much-needed attention.
I miss the volunteers so much, but the silver lining in this is being able to spend so much time with the cats. I get to clean Carrot’s room (and many others) each time I am there now, and it is nice to spend that time with the cats. Carrot certainly appreciates any and all attention he can get. He has been following me around the room while I am cleaning his room. Then when I go out to the solarium he follows me and helps me clean out there.
We have been trying hard to give the cats enrichment toys, treats (Carrot’s favorite), and lots of pets and attention. I know the cats can’t wait for the volunteers to return, so they can get attention all day.
Carrot has been playing with several of the cats in his suite, including tough boy, Archer. This only lasted a few seconds, but I was glad I was there to see it. Carrot is still hanging with his usual crowd, Sparkly, Pancake, and Elijah most of the time. Everyone in his room seems to be getting along very well lately, which is a nice change.
There is no medical news to report for Carrot this month, as he has been a healthy boy. He is still getting an extra meal each day at lunchtime so that he can maintain his weight. He is the only cat in his room that gets the extra meal, so I’m sure it makes him feel special. We crate him for a few minutes while he eats so that none of the other cats can steal his food.
Every time I go into Carrot’s solarium he is out there, and he immediately starts rolling around, reaching out his paws, and purring. Who could say no to that? You just HAVE to rush over to pet him right away. Of course, as soon as I get my camera out to capture the cuteness he rolls the other way, and I miss the great shot. I did manage to get some cute ones for you, though.
That’s all the Carrot’s news for now. Carrot and everyone at Tabby’s Place thank you all for your continued support. These are hard times, and your support means so much. Stay safe and healthy.
