Dear Carrot friends,
What a strange and scary time we are living in. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
It has also been a strange month for Carrot and all the cats at Tabby’s Place. With the growing concern over COVID-19 and the stay at home order in New Jersey, we closed Tabby’s Place to the public and to our volunteers. Our small staff is still going each day to take care of the cats. It’s hard work, but we are getting everything done.
The staff is trying hard to give all the cats attention, but the cats have definitely noticed the volunteers are gone. It’s usually the volunteers who feed, clean, play and socialize with the cats. The cats are used to an average of 25-30 people a day tending to their every need. They are used to volunteers coming and going all day. Playing with them, petting them, keeping them company.
While the staff is trying hard to keep up with giving everyone attention, there are only 3-4 of us a day, so we cannot possibly give them the attention they are used to. We make sure they get their medicines, get food and water, and we are keeping their areas clean, but that takes us most of the day, so I know the cats, and staff, can’t wait for the volunteers to be able to return.
Carrot is doing well, but I know he misses all the usual attention that he gets from volunteers and visitors. I give him pets whenever I am in his suite and treats, of course. Carrot is doing his usual things… hanging out in his solarium, eating treats and lounging in the sun.
No health issues to report this month, which is always good news. Our vet team is still coming in to take care of all the cats’ medical needs.
The other day I went out into the solarium, and Sparkly and Pancake were out there. I opened the treat bag to give them some treats and suddenly Carrot came flying through the tunnel, down the ramp, and stood there waiting for treats before I could even get any out of the bag! I’ve never seen him move so fast! He really does love his treats.
That’s all the Carrot news for now. Hopefully, things can return to normal soon, but until then please stay safe and healthy.
Thank you all for your continued support of Carrot. It always means a lot to us, but in these worrying, uncertain times, it’s more appreciated then you can imagine.
Your correspondent,
Karina
