Update for Adam

Happy November, Friends!

Adam and I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying this lovely fall weather.

Adam has been enjoying time in the solarium this month.  He still likes to hang out there with his friends.  Luckily this month has been pretty warm so he has enjoyed a prolonged solarium season.  There have been a lot of volunteers walking cats in strollers lately, so Adam has a daily show right outside his suite.  I wonder what he thinks of the daily parade.

Unfortunately, something is off with Adam this month.  One morning he was having trouble jumping and seemed to be painful around his ears.  Another day he seemed hoarse and was noted to have smelly breath.  Adam was sedated recently for an ear flush and full exam.  He is now taking ear medications for an infection.  He also had infected canines removed.  Adam has been put back on increased pain injections and is being monitored for neurological signs.  In his most recent medical check, he was noted to be hypermetric in his hind end. This describes an overextension of his limbs, a type of incoordination of his voluntary muscular movement.  For those that have seen Adam walk, he tends to high step or sway step with his hind limbs. I often describe Adam’s walk as the gait of someone who has been on a horse for too long.

I did have the pleasure of taking Adam for a stroller walk the other day.  Unfortunately for me, but not for Adam, someone had already walked him that day.  Adam is not totally fond of the stroller rides yet but is doing a lot better with them now that he’s getting used to them.  He wasn’t too thrilled to be getting a second walk but did seem pleased to see me.  It’s been a long time since we’ve had a chance to chat, and Adam and I enjoyed a good conversation. We had a few minutes of strolling in Cherny’s Garden, but sadly Adam made a little poopy in his stroller and we had to have him go back in to clean up.  I really enjoyed my time with Adam as I have been missing him so much lately.

Adam and I are so grateful for all that you do for Tabby’s Place in sponsoring him.  We had hoped that by this point people would be allowed back into Tabby’s Place for visits again, but alas, this pandemic still drags on.  We wish you a wonderful season of Thanksgiving and a start to a joyful holiday time.  We would not be able to keep kitties like Adam comfortable and happy without the generosity of people like you.

Until next month friends…
