Update for Adam

Update for Adam

Happy February friends!

Adam and I send our best wishes for a happy month.  Adam has had a lovely few weeks and is enjoying his naps and his visits.

Adam has experienced good health this month.  We have decreased some of his medications since the new diet in Suite A is doing a great job with his loose stool.  This biggest problem now is that his stool is solid and rather large!  He does not love being expressed these days.

Adam is still enjoying his winter naps.  Our weather has been quite balmy for February, so he has been less of a hibernating sea lion than usual this winter.  When people enter Suite A, he often gets up from his naps and runs to the door to see who is coming to visit.  Sometimes it is someone new and exciting and he decides to hang out and get to know the visitor.  Sometimes it is just a staff member or regular volunteer and he just goes back to his cubby and becomes a snoozy boy once again!

One significant change in Suite A the past few weeks was the loss of our beautiful Cindy.  Adam’s sweet suitemate had become quite anemic, and despite all efforts to help her, Cindy lost her battle and we had to gently let her go. Cindy had a huge personality and had made Suite A such a chatty, friendly place to visit.  She often wanted a lot of attention and stole some of Adam’s thunder, but I know that he really liked her and I’m sure he misses her fun-loving ways.

Adam has been showing more affection these days than he has in the past.  He really likes to gently snuggle recently.  You can see in the picture that he decided to explore one of our volunteer’s hair on a recent visit.  She was giving Mary some love and Adam climbed right up onto her and started to give her some love!

Another sweet moment happened last Sunday.  I stopped by Tabby’s Place for a few minutes just to spend some time with the cats.  My regular Saturday shift has been very busy lately with visitors, adopters, and Paws to Read children. This is, of course, wonderful, but has left me with little time to visit with the cats.

Anyway, I wasn’t feeling particularly well that day and Adam must have sensed something was different.  When I stopped in to see him, he got up from his nap, hopped right up on top of the cubbies I was sitting on, got into my lap and gave me kisses on the nose!  It was so lovely!  Adam and I do really love each other, but I don’t always get the gift of his affection. It was so nice to get some Adam love.  Perhaps it was because I chose a quiet time at the sanctuary to go and see him, not during the usual Saturday rush.  I may have to make a habit of impromptu visits!

Adam and I wish you a Valentine’s month filled with love and happiness!  Adam is happy to send you a nose kiss as a thank you for all that you do to make his life Valentine’s Day every day. Have a wonderful few weeks and we’ll be back with another update soon!
