Kitty LeFey’s Cosmos: Parlor Tricks and Paramours

Love stories permeate everything from literature to popular streaming series.

Some of the most endearing unfold at Tabby’s Place: A Cat Sanctuary. We were overjoyed when Mullet and Malora became Mullora (or was it Malet?) and devastated when he prematurely (it’s always premature) crossed the rainbow bridge. Later, we clapped gleefully when Malora discovered that Bing’s company suited her quiet reserve. Malora can now sometimes even be found solo on the floor of the solarium, reclaiming self and space and sunshine.

Meanwhile, prior to the Great Suite Exchange of 2024 (suites A and B residents were swapped to give each group a more appropriate amount of space), something new had begun to brew in the same suite where Malora made her first love connection. Ash was already settled there when Brian was introduced to the room. It was not love at first sight. Brian was unsettled, unsure, uncomfortable. But, he soon started to find his place, and he and Ash connected.

Cue the writing of symphonies and performances of parlor tricks in the new suite.

Of course, Tabby’s Place cats are not in the habit of performing commercial jingles on demand at parties (This Kitty will! Thank you, once again, Barry Manilow.). Nor will they pull out their party tricks for Graham Norton on his eponymous show, no matter how much they love talk shows, red sofas, and being the center of attention. What Tabby’s Place cats will do is commit passion sans crimes.

Moo Moo, Pepita, Hazey, Bing, Vinnie, Verne, Malora, and Jupiter all have passions, either singly or shared.  But, there’s one trick that depends on time of day. Moo Moo and her cohorts enjoy hanging out on the kitty shelves in the center of the room, most especially at meal time. From there, they command a view of the window in the door. They wait and watch for hapless humans to happen by, then, with a little hocus pocus, they turn up the adorable. Presumably from the action of Ash’s mouth, they also turn up the volume. And, upon entering the suite, even more adorable gets turned on. Their love for meals is unmatched!

Yet, pleas for treats and cat mush will dissipate (eventually) once the cats realize that the person present has arrived empty handed. Despite being creatures of passion, the residents of suite B are not ones to hold grudges. Although they only begrudgingly release expectations of snacks, requests for cuddles are certain to commence as they shift their attention to seeking attention. Happily given and happily received! This being the case, even humans who arrive empty-handed will not remain so for long.

From the most forward attention-seekers to the shiest hiders, from the insiders (enjoy the main suite) to the outsiders (prefer the solarium), all of the cats of suite B have tricks for coexisting contentedly. Some turn up their parlor tricks, others attach themselves to paramours.

Whichever they choose, they are fully supported by the outrageously magnificent staff and unbelievably amazing volunteers. Whether or not they perform on demand, the cats of suite B, across Tabby’s Place, in foster, and in supported colonies are applauded and cheered for as part of the daily routine. It’s a near-constant state of ovations as “hopeless” loses its 4-letter tail and individual cats beautifully swish their own.
