Kitty LeFey’s Cosmo: Gulliver’s Rules

What happens when an orca-colored cat is found by the side of the road? In Gulliver’s case, he comes to Tabby’s Place and takes charge. The odds were stacked against him, as he was probably hit by a car. Small creatures and big vehicles are not on a level playing field. But Gulliver made up his own rules. He also had a lot of help from Dr. Fantastic, that unique organism that comprises many individual specialists and caregivers who collectively give cats like Gulliver a chance to thrive.

For Gulliver, thriving means enjoying the best of Community Room living. In this special space, there are many cats to cuddle. There is an endless supply of treats and fish mush. There is one wacky volunteer who gives exploding fist bumps (Mea culpa! N.B. “exploding” means making an appropriately silly sound while quickly flicking fingers open to scratch Gulliver’s head), and there are many other humans who provide attention, love, and even more attention.

Even so, Gulliver would prefer if the Board of Trustees would pay closer attention to his particular requests.

First off, there’s the matter of “the gap.” “The gap” is an open space formed where the tables are pushed together forming one large conference space. Gulliver often pokes his paws through the gap, but there is never anything there. This needs to be remedied tout de suite! Proper entertainments must be provided. Second, there is the matter of an excess of veterinary and general care. Gulliver would prefer that medication dosing, claw clipping, and anything to do with checking the state of his urinary incontinence be eliminated from his daily routine.

Although these things are outside the purview of the Board, Gulliver insists that his demands be met forthwith. He expects his rules to be followed. He is unmoved by “reasonable explanations” and “logic.” He is also unmoved by arguments that, being an advanced needs cat, he particularly requires the particularly offensive attentions that staff provided daily.

Although unconvinced of these necessities, Gulliver remains cooperative…not to mention adorable. Gulliver is also young, charming, and ready to purr up a storm with the right companions, whether they are as large as Brobdingnagians, as little as Lilliputians, or exactly the size of you. Gulliver will travel to the ends of the earth with the right forever family. They only have to come to Tabby’s Place, make the necessary arrangements, and help him pack for the journey.
