Glorious and victorious

Glorious and victorious

super_excited_catBack in middle school, I had a good friend who was known for exclaiming, during tough times, “How am I expected to remain victorious under these circumstances??!”

Yeah. I was a weird middle schooler. (I’ve changed a lot not at all.) But, today, the news is wall-to-wall victorious.

Baby Ward, one of our newest kittens, is very excited about all this glory. Photo by his foster mami, Denise.

First and big: Irene was a pistol, but Tabby’s Place is okay. The people are okay. The building is okay. And, most importantly, the cats are utterly, victoriously okay.

In a town that tends to lose power at the drop of a hat, our electricity stayed gloriously strong throughout Irene’s worst. Last summer, wussy little weenie-storms knocked out the power for hours and hours at Tabby’s Place. But when we got socked by a hurricane meaner than the junkyard dog, all was well. Go figure. Maybe they’ve reinforced our power lines with titanium and steel and whatever Twinkies are made of (that stuff’s indestructible). Or maybe Dobro, Jackie and Cecille made the power companies an offer they couldn’t refuse (we don’t lose power = power company people are allowed to live). I have no idea. But whatever it was, it worked. Victoire.

In further glimmers of glory, the solaria didn’t even flood. (“Solaria” = plural of “solarium,” if you are pretentious and word-nerdy like me. Otherwise, “solariums” will do.) Cute as it would have been to see solarium-lovers Natalie and Hootz on boogie boards, riding the waves, it’s much cuter to see a plain old boring, ordinary day – sunshine and all. Yup, the sun is shining over Tabby’s Place today. Glorious.

Twix, too, cannot contain her excitement. Another great shot by Denise.

So now that you’re no longer worried about the cats (thanks for worrying, by the way), it’s my gleeful pleasure to share a big, giant victory with you.

Catsparella won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you’ll remember, one of our most famous friends, the luminous Catsparella, was in the running for a prestigious Pettie award. Being her spectacular self, Catsparella pledged to donate her $1,000 winnings to Tabby’s Place…if, that is, she won. When time came to announce the winners on Friday, some may have wondered, but I had no doubt: between Catsparella’s inherent awesomeness, and the fact that she had you guys voting for her (and voting and voting and voting), it was all over but the awards ceremony. Please join me in congratulating Catsparella here and on her blog (which, by the way, is a treat from start to finish – do check it out).

Glorious? Check. Victorious? Check. We’re thanking God here today at Tabby’s Place – and thanking the amazing friends (2- and 4-legged alike) with whom He’s surrounding us. Here’s to a sunny, winning week ahead.

  1. Congrats to Catsparella!!! 🙂 I’m also glad that Tabby’s Place stayed safe through the storm!! (my bet’s on Dobro, Jackie, and Cecille for keeping the power on!! Maybe Natalie too 🙂

  2. Good to hear every kitty’s purresent & purring two days after Irene hit. I also have to agree with nik11676 and say kudos to the tough guys (Cecille, Dobro, Jackie & Natalie) for forcing the power companies to leave Tabby’s Place’s power on during Irene.

  3. Yay for both Catsparella and Tabby’s Place for weathering the storm!

Is it just me, or does Twix always look really, really surprised? 🙂

And is it also just me, or does Ward really, really enjoy his food? 🙂
