Kitty LeFey’s Cosmos: Sootie’s Fairy Tale

Kitty LeFey’s Cosmos: Sootie’s Fairy Tale

It was not a pumpkin-shaped golden carriage that brought a cinder-colored cat to Tabby’s Place a short time ago. There was no horse that was turned into a coachman. There were no mice transformed into horses. There was also no dog named Bruno that was POOF made into a footman (We wouldn’t talk about that anyway). Fiddly little details aside, please forgive any retread for regular readers, but this is definitely a Cinderella story. We know all about these at Tabby’s Place. This time, it is about the aptly-named Sootie. Sootie’s fur is as black as, well, soot, pitch, cinders, or midnight when there’s total cloud cover and no street lamps. Sootie can hide in a shadow.

Sootie does not hide in shadows. This 5-year-old sweetie is eager for attention. She purrs and swooshes her very short yet incredibly fluffy tail with great effect. Sootie is dressed for a formal ball, and she finds every visitor to be equally charming. No visitor is anywhere close to as charming as Sootie herself.

So, all of this begs the question: Why is Sootie a Tabby’s Place cat? In deference to all the Bruno’s of the world, there are matters that maybe we should decline to discuss. But, this is Tabby’s Place, so let’s just say that things in Sootie’s system don’t always follow the smoothest path from entry to exit. It’s not that Sootie will suddenly have to race away and lose one of her glass slippers. It’s more that things need encouragement to move along inside.

Okay. Poop.
We’re talking about poop.

It’s an old subject, as familiar as any fairytale (likely more so). For Sootie, there are chronic constipation issues. Never fear! The magical medical team will always ensure that Sootie’s tummy is kept as comfortable as possible. There are particular foods for her to eat, particular foods for her to not eat, and particular things that feeders can stir into her food. All of this is with the goal of keeping Sootie going…in all of the senses of that term.

What will help keep Sootie metaphorically going is the collection of amazing people who are dedicated to showering every Tabby’s Place cat with unconditional, unbounded, unending heaps of love…and fishmush…and treats. What will also help keep Sootie going – metaphorically and literally – are the generous donations provided by our beloved donors (WE LOVE YOU! WE LOVE YOU! WE LOVE YOU!).

Because of our fantabuliciously caring global family, Sootie will always have everything she needs to keep her going. That includes food and litter, medications and nutritional supplements, clean and cozy bedding, and heat, and air conditioning, and lighting, and, well, everything. Because of our darling donors (WE SUPER MEGA ULTRA LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU!), Sootie will never know a cold hearth, an empty food bowl, or a wicked stepmother. Sootie will be surrounded by the kindness of multitudes of fairy godparents (AKA staff and volunteers), who will perform tasks both magical and mundane to grant her every wish.

Every one of these caregivers has the same grand wish for Sootie: a forever home. While we adore this furry ball of coal, our greatest hope is that her Person Charming will come looking for exactly Sootie. We’re hoping that Person Charming arrives really soon. Midnight is coming, and we all have a coach to catch.
