Sometimes I forget that we see only a few chapters. We love the Tabby’s Place cats completely. But it’s humbling — and liberating — to remember that we don’t exhaust their complete story of love.

Any number of things may be causing you to burn awake under the moon this fall: Iraq. Ukraine. Kanye West. The thousand tiny terrors that puncture your peace. These just might be the times that try cats’ souls. You just might need the reminder that joy wins.
People say that Labor Day marks the end of summer. People say that white shoes are not okay after said day. People say a lot of things. But if you’ve had the kind of August our cats have had, you’re still sloshing white espadrilles through the endless summer stew.
They say that one is the loneliest number. But “they” also say that vegan cheese is food, and that the Kings of Leon produce actual music. Clearly “they” are, at times, misinformed. So, with all respect to “them,” I declare that a one-eyed cat can be utterly unlonely.
