Update for Tux

Dear Sponsors of Tux,

Periwinkle attempts to play with Tux

Tux continues to experience good health this winter. There have been a number of upper respiratory infections going through the sanctuary, but Tux has avoided all of that. He is still tapering down on his medication that helps with inflammation in his mouth.

So far, Tux is keeping to his New Year’s resolutions. He’s been good about taking his daily medications and has resisted peeing in inappropriate places. He is doing his best to welcome (and tolerate) young Periwinkle and ignore Koda. And he, along with Sammy, June, Periwinkle, and Polly, were devoted friends through Puzzle’s last days.

It has been a mixture of emotions in the Community Room. The loss of Puzzle has been hard on many of us, both human and feline. Cats are hard to read, but Ginny and I agree that Tux has been different since Puzzle left us. I can’t put my finger on how, but he certainly feels a loss. As I think back on the last few months, I wonder if Tux didn’t know more than we did about the return of Puzzle’s lymphoma. It was nearly impossible to find the two apart from one another.

But there is happy news from the Community Room too. Dear Polly found a forever home and soon three youngsters from the holding rooms will be joining our space. One of them is blind, like Polly, and another has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH).

While we wait for their move-in date, Tux remains devoted to his work. Just this morning he came to check in on me to make sure I had not forgotten to write his update. I was so pleased to capture his inquisitive look! Now that he knows I am sticking to my responsibilities, he has settled himself on Ginny’s work desk to oversee her daily tasks.
