Update for Pepita

Update for Pepita

Greetings, Amazing Pepita Sponsors!

Today (Sunday, June 13, as I’m writing this) was a very exciting day for Pepita and a fabulous milestone for Tabby’s Place. Today, with all the kitties in the solariums watching, we held the groundbreaking ceremony for Quinn’s Corner, an expansion of Tabby’s Place that will enable the sanctuary to expand its scope and care for some of the most vulnerable kitties in the world:  those with feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and those who are the tiniest of tiny, the neonatal kittens.

FeLV is difficult to diagnose and manage and requires a high level of individualized care and a specific environment in which that care is given.  Neo-natal kitties, especially those who come into our care without their mothers, are especially fragile and in need of a sanctuary specifically equipped for them.

Now, Tabby’s Place, thanks to an incredibly generous donor, is on its way to opening its arms to these very special kitties.  Through this donor’s generosity, we have about 75% of what we need to make this dream a reality.  More information on Quinn’s Corner can be found here, and we will soon be posting video of the Groundbreaking to our home page.

Playtime–yes, please!

Pepita watched the fanfare from her post atop one of the climbing shelves in Suite A’s solarium, and made herself available for pets from her fans who were passing by outside, of course.  Some kitties joined in the ceremonies in a few strollers:  Anka, Farrah, and Koda, while Cotton was held by one of the staff. All furry ones seemed to enjoy being up close and personal, or maybe they were just enjoying being outside.

Pepita had a busy month of quite warm weather, which meant maximum solarium time for our sweet girl.  She was also in a very playful mood, as you can see from the pictures, and even drew Steven into playtime with her, though I’m not sure she always intended that.

Her fur is improving again, as you can see from my close-up picture, but we are keeping her on a low dose of her allergy medication. She also experienced some weight loss this month which may be indicative of yet another urinary tract infection. We will be checking into this, so keep your fingers crossed that she gets a pass on UTIs this month.

There is not much news about Pepita this month. She is her usual pretty, cheerful self and is just enjoying the summer-like weather and the companionship of her regular solarium mates: Steven, Wonton, and Chewie. We even saw Boom out there today.

And lately Rose has rejoined Suite A while she recovers from a particularly stubborn UTI. In Suite A, Rose can roam free without her diaper, which makes for less butt burns from escaping urine. You may recall Rose was a long-time resident of Suite A until she had a severe brain infection and was moved to the lobby after that resolved, in order to watch her more closely. In the lobby she needs to wear a diaper, so she is enjoying her former buddies in Suite A’s solarium and the fresh breezes as well. Today she was totally zonked in the solarium, oblivious to all the happenings outside.

So I hope you will just enjoy these photos of your gentle girl, and know how much you mean to her and everyone at Tabby’s Place.  Your support of Pepita so that she can have a wonderful life means the world to us.
