Update for Macaroon

Happy August, dear friends of Ms. Macaroon!

Well, the scales finally tipped! And the result? Mac has moved back into Suite C, also known as the overweight kitty suite. It was just much easier to control her access to food when all the other kitties in there also required limited access to food. And so, now she has settled in quite nicely to the much larger room, which gives her room to walk about and many cubbies in which to hang out. We definitely want her to get back to her svelte self, as it is so much healthier for her.

So she joins a number of kitties who are working on their weight, too, such as Faye and Carrot, who are easy-go-lucky types. I am surprised that she has not explored the solarium attached to the suite, as she could experience some fresh air and sunshine. Maybe she will notice the other cats going out there and take a stroll.

But Mac, with her “I’m the Queen” attitude, may have met her equal with a newcomer named Hemingway. A large all-white boy, with no relation to the author and not sporting any extra toes, is causing all sorts of drama — as in, bullying masked as bravado. And he has the scars to prove it!

I finished cleaning another suite one Sunday and heard a huge ruckus coming from Mac’s suite. I rushed in there to find Hemingway pummeling another kitty (not Mac, thank goodness), fur flying everywhere! He’s now on a bit of behavior medication, and he’s working with our behavior consultant. Another step we’re taking is to keep him crated during morning cleaning. For some reason, morning cleaning can really agitate some kitties because of all the activity taking place in their suite. Let’s hope his handsome looks and dynamic personality earns him a forever home (single kitty home, of course) very soon! And here we thought that Simba getting adopted would free Mac of dynamics for a while. There’s always another kitty just around the bend who wants to be King.

Speaking of forever homes, someone is extremely interested in lovely Macaroon herself! We’re keeping toes, fingers, and paws crossed that this time is the charm for our black beauty. It’s not yet definite that she would be adopted, but I am hoping by the next time I write an update, it will be a super joyful one with big news.

The move to Suite C has given Mac a lot of visibility, as many visitors come and go into the large suites. Mac is a very sociable girl. As soon as I enter (or anyone enters), she is right there, asking for pets (and hoping for treats or food) and chattering away about the latest news in her suite.

On the medical front, Mac has enjoyed a happy and issue-free month, and she looks good (except for the few extra pounds) with her silky black coat and bright eyes. She really is enjoying the best of health lately.

Unfortunately, that’s not so with many other kitties in Tabby’s Place’s care. Our Linda Fund Matching Challenge is underway right now to raise funds to take care of kitties with significant medical needs. The expense of providing the care many of our kitties need is incredible. For every dollar donated, the donation is matched by a generous pool of money graciously given by wonderful benefactors and corporate sponsors. It is so great to donate an amount and then know it is doubled automatically! If you want more information, just visit our home page. Please spread the word!

Our hearts are filled with joy in your generosity each month to keep Macaroon the happy and healthy girl she is. Have a wonderful remainder of your summer, and we will fill you in on the latest Mac news in September!
