Update for Macaroon

Hello, dear friends of Macaroon,

Welcome to June, which is Adopt a Shelter Cat month! What a wonderful time to consider adopting a Tabby’s Place kitty. We are hoping that potential adopters take note of this month’s focus on adoption and come in to find that perfect kitty fit for their family. There was a brief flutter of excitement at Tabby’s Place when word spread of a possible adopter for our dear Mac, but sadly, so far nothing has come of that initial interest.

We are also a bit overrun with the tiniest, newest residents—yes, kittens! To help find those munchkins a forever home quickly, this weekend we’ll be holding our 5th annual Kitten Shower! It’s a wonderful time for potential adopters to enjoy playtime with the kittens, refreshments, and tours of Tabby’s Place. Visitors bring a “shower gift/donation” or litter or food or other things from our wish list and kitten adoptions are reduced to $50. Though the focus is on kittens, we often do see older kitties adopted when visitors take a tour and make the heart-to-heart connection with one of the older felines.

Mac’s favorite spot right now is still behind Danielle’s computer monitor. I guess she just wants to be sure Danielle is getting all the computer work correct (or maybe she just wants to hide there from Simba!).

Mac’s eating crate was moved to the other side of the room a few weeks ago. This caused her a lot of upset for a week. She couldn’t get used eating on the opposite side of room and would run around and scream but would not go in the crate on the other side of the room for her food. After about a week she came around to it, but there was a lot of drama in the meantime. Okay—so no surprise here: Macaroon, like most kitties, doesn’t like change!

Our black beauty has had a mellow month of good health. And last time I was there she wanted to chat all about it! She was so excited to see me and was quite verbal as she ran around the room, rubbing up against my legs, wanting pets and head bonks. My, oh, my, I had never heard her speak so much in one visit. It was like she was telling me all about everything that had happened the whole month!

When not behind Danielle’s computer monitor, Mac is still enjoying her perch up high. I also caught her working out how to get the food bits out of a purple enrichment toy—one of those devices meant to slow kitties down when they eat by making them work for their food. It seems to work, though I am sure Mac would have preferred to just get a big ‘ole bowlful of food instead.

This month we also held the Tabby’s Place annual memorial service to honor and remember all the kitties who were promoted to heaven throughout the prior year. This year we also remembered 3 volunteers whom we lost, with loving tributes from close friends of theirs. The memorial takes place in beautiful Cherny’s Garden, directly behind our building. Though Mac didn’t have a view of it directly, I’m sure she watched with interest the parking lot fill to overflowing as volunteers and staff gathered for this special event, and sensed (with that sixth sense kitties have) the love that surrounded the building that day. We floated rose petals as names of beloved kitties were read, and Danielle scattered some ashes from each kitty in the garden. What a loving tribute it was.

We are so very grateful for the love you show Mac each month. She is very lucky to count you among her admirers and I hope you have the chance to visit her if you are in the area. She is always up to something interesting. More news next month… enjoy the rest of June and have a great Fourth of July!
