Dear Carrot Friend,
Carrot had a fairly quiet month. We sent him to the Evolve Pink therapy night, but he was in such a bad mood, he even swatted and went after one of the ladies. Based on how he has been acting lately, at this group, and at the senior homes, we decided to give Carrot a break from visits to the various places we go. He is clearly telling us he needs a break, because it’s not like him to be so cranky, and it certainly isn’t like him to lash out at someone. I think Carrot is done with this for now, and he is ready for a break. Maybe in a few months, we will try him again, but for now, he can just rest and do his own thing.
Because Carrot isn’t doing any visiting anymore, we asked our stroller walking volunteers to make sure he gets out more. He still really loves stroller rides and loves to get outside for a while, so we will make sure he gets lots of rides around in a stroller.
Carrot’s room is very quiet these days, and the cats really seem to enjoy the peace. On occasion, Wilbur and Alex will growl at each other, but mostly they just do their thing and leave each other alone.
In very sad news, one of Carrot’s roommates passed away recently. Small, but feisty Nyla has left us after going into heart failure. She will be deeply missed by all of us at Tabby’s Place, and she left an empty hole in Carrot’s room. Nyla was a little feisty with us humans, but she usually just left the cats alone and preferred to find her own bed and have some peace.
We are still having nice warm days, and Carrot and friends are making the most of it, spending nearly all day and night out in the solarium. They sure do love being out there, and these days the inside suite is nearly empty because they all want to be part of the “cool kids” gang outside. The only time I ever see Carrot inside is when there is a volunteer visiting, and Carrot can climb into their lap. If you sit down in Carrot’s room, he will happily climb onto your lap and settle down for some pets.
Since Carrot’s calcium levels returned to normal, he doesn’t need to be fasted for blood work very often. However, the other day the vet team wanted to check his levels, just to make sure he is still doing well. Our senior vet tech asked me to hold him for the blood work, which of course I did. Carrot is such a wiggler for blood work! I was holding him on the exam room table, and he was flipping himself every way he could. At one point he was completely upside down, and all I could do was laugh at him, he was being so silly and funny. Eventually, we got the blood work done, and he was able to go back to his room, and have some breakfast.
All is still good with Carrot’s blood work, so he will be retested again at some point, just to make sure he is OK.
That’s all the Carrot news for now. Thank you so much for your support of our Carrot, we appreciate you so much.
Your correspondent,
Karina
