Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friend,

Carrot had a pretty busy month. He went to visit his senior friends twice in Aged to Purrfection, but he was a little cranky both times. I’m not sure what was going on with him, because he usually loves his senior home visits, but for whatever reason, he was in a bad mood. It was decided to give him a little break from his senior home visits for a while, but he will be back with his normal visits soon.

Even though he had been cranky during his senior home visits, I knew the ladies at the breast cancer support group had specifically asked for Carrot to go back to their once-a-month pet therapy meeting. I didn’t want to upset Carrot by sending him, but I also didn’t want to disappoint the ladies, so I decided to send him to their meeting. I was a little concerned he would be cranky with them, too, and hoped it would go ok. When he returned from the pet therapy night I asked how he had done—he did great! He laid on the couch again, flirted with the ladies, and had a great visit. All the ladies love him, and he enjoys all the attention they give him.

Carrot the cutest!

I have no idea why he is being cranky with the visits to the senior homes, but so happy at the pet therapy night with the ladies. We will give him a little break from Aged to Purrfection and see if he enjoys it more after a break. He can’t take a break from his visits with the breast cancer survivors though, they ask for him to go every time.

Angelo went with Carrot this month to the pet therapy night, but Angelo wasn’t in the mood to be social and just wanted to lay in his carrier and not come out. There’s no way to know how these cats will respond each week, as they are always going to do whatever they want to do on that day. Angelo has always been very social when he goes to visit the seniors but was not social at the pet therapy night. Cats will be cats, I guess.

In medical news, one of Carrot’s inverted nipples was a little red and irritated this month, but he seems to be doing ok now. We keep them clean and disinfected, so it doesn’t get infected. Nothing else to report on the medical front, which is good news. Carrot is a healthy boy.

Carrot has a few new cats that moved into his suite, Cassie and Chicken Salad (she came with the name!). They are both large girls who will benefit from the low-fat food in Suite C. They both seem quiet and a little shy, so they are not causing any issues with the other cats. Suite C has been quite mellow these days, with no incidents among the cats.

Carrot and his friends are still enjoying lots of solarium time, of course. I don’t think I’ve seen Carrot inside the suite for a few weeks—he’s always outside. This is the perfect time of year to enjoy being outside—before it gets too cold (not that the cold will stop them). There are usually 2 or 3 cats inside the suite, and everyone else is outside in the solarium.

Carrot has enjoyed many stroller walks with our volunteers this month. Now that the weather is not as hot, our stroller volunteers have been coming more often and getting a lot of the cats outside for a stroll. I think this is Carrot’s favorite thing to do, because he loves being outside, and he can look all around the building and the garden.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you for everything you do for Carrot, as our mission would be impossible without you.

Your correspondent,
Karina
