Dear Carrot Friend,
Carrot had another good month. He went to visit some of his senior friends in Aged to Purrfection, which he always loves. He was a little cranky during his previous visit, but this time he was his usual, loving self. I was glad the cranky Carrot was a one-time thing because he is our star of the program!
Carrot enjoyed lots and lots of stroller walks this month. Some days have been too hot for the cats to go outside, but we have had plenty of nice days, and our stroller volunteers have made the most of those days and walked many of the cats on each nice day. We recently decided to ask our Comfort Buddies volunteers (cat socializing for easy cats like Carrot) if they would also be interested in joining the stroller program. Many of them were very happy to add stroller walks to their assignments, so many more cats get to go for walks outside each day.
Carrot is going to try out a new program for us, which is called Whisker Wednesday. Tabby’s Place teamed up with Evolve Pink, which is an organization to support women with breast cancer and survivors of breast cancer. We are going to provide a pet therapy night once a month for women going through, and struggling with this terrible disease. They have once-a-week meetings and hold various therapy activities for the women, so once a month we will be providing pet therapy. I am going to send Carrot for the first session, which is later this month, because he is a good one to try out new things. I have a feeling Carrot will be the star of the show and will bring some smiles and joy to these women, during their times of darkness. I will keep you posted on how his first visit goes.
Carrot has a new roommate in Suite C, Gator, who moved from next door in Suite A. In his prior suite, Gator was terrorizing poor Steven and kept beating him up. Steven was so scared he was just hiding all the time, so it was time for Gator to go somewhere else. The cats in Suite C are much more confident, and Gator is being a good boy in his new area. He is getting along well with his new suitemates and has even made friends with Alex.
Carrot developed mysterious facial abrasions this month (as you can see from one of my photos). We eventually determined that it was from the nights when he is crated and receives medications on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. He is frantically rubbing on the cage bars to get out. We are now crating him in a soft crate to avoid further injury or irritation. He also had an irritated and swollen nipple one morning that resolved after a week. Carrot seems to be healing and feeling much better now.
Carrot, Elijah, and Wilbur have all been spending a lot of time in the solarium, even on really hot days. Some of the other cats come outside for a while but go back inside to the air conditioning after a bit. A hot day isn’t going to stop Carrot and his friends from being outside though—they love it too much.
That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you so much for all your support, and for being Carrot’s friend.
Your correspondent,
Karina
