Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot Friends,

Carrot’s group of friends has grown considerably. It used to be Carrot and Elijah. Then Wilbur joined them. Then Joshua. Now the word is out… all the cool kids hang in the solarium with Carrot. These Days, when I visit the C solarium, it’s a party zone!

A new boy, Pepperoni, joined Carrot’s group. When Pepperoni first arrived, and was still in our holding rooms, he was a little scary. He had a very short fuse and was frequently aggressive. Once he was introduced to Suite C he became much easier to deal with. He seems to love the other cats and seems very content hanging with his new friends. He is even friendlier with the staff and volunteers.

Another fairly new boy, Hector, has also joined Carrot’s group of friends. Hector is timid but very sweet, and he loves all cats. Hector is finding more courage by watching his confident friends interact with us. I am hoping Hector’s best friend, Mousie, will soon join Carrot’s group. Mousie is painfully shy and could benefit from the outgoing solarium crowd.  Mousie and Hector came over together from Lebanon, and they both had very large wounds. Hector is doing great and healed well. Mousie is still receiving treatment but is improving.

We added one volunteer each week to provide enrichment for the cats. This volunteer goes through all the rooms and plays with the cats with wand toys, and gives the cats lots of play time. The volunteer reports that some cats want to play, and some do not. But the ones who always want to play are the kittens and Carrot’s group. No surprise there—they are the fun-loving groups.

Carrot has still been enjoying some stroller walks when the weather will cooperate. If it’s too hot we stop all stroller walks, and it has been very hot lately. We have still had a few nice days though, and the cats sure do enjoy their walks.

Carrot has regained some of the weight that he lost in prior months. We are happy about this. He has been in good health aside from a possible hairball or two.

A funny encounter was noted with fellow suitemate, Charly (who was recently adopted). Carrot was sitting on the small cat couch on the floor of the suite. It was positioned just outside the long floor cubby, which happens to be Charly’s favorite spot to hang out. When Carrot was looking the other way, Charly reached her paw out of the opening and quickly batted at Carrot’s tail. I can just imagine Carrot’s surprise!

It is so hot here today, and Carrot’s group is all still outside in the solarium. I have no idea how they can tolerate the heat, but they all seem fine and don’t want to come inside.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you for your continued support of our fun-loving boy.
