Dear Carrot Friends,
Carrot has had another great month! Spring is here and the weather has been mostly nice, which means two things for Carrot: 1) stroller walks and 2) solarium time.
Carrot has enjoyed many, many stroller rides this month. As the weather gets warmer, more of our stroller volunteers are returning to walk the cats, so the cats are getting out more often.
We have some volunteers who can’t actually walk the cats around outside, for various reasons, but these volunteers have found they can still help. It’s called stroller enrichment and the cats love it just as much as the walks. The volunteer sits outside of the front of the building, where we have tables and chairs set up, and it is under the overhang of the building. The volunteer sits on the chairs, with cats in strollers, and they all enjoy their time visiting with each other. The cats are still getting lots of enrichment by being outside, and away from their usual area. They also really like the attention from the volunteer who is spending time with them. So no matter if they are strolling, or sitting outside, the cats are getting a lot of enrichment and attention.
They all need this extra enrichment at the moment because we are still running on very few volunteers, as we can’t have our socializers in the building. We are hoping in the next few months things can start to return to normal, but we also want everyone to be safe until the COVID numbers start to come down significantly. In the meantime, rest assured that the cats are still getting time with their volunteer friends. I am including some pictures of Carrot in his stroller, and you can see he thoroughly enjoys it.
Big news…. Archer was adopted from Carrot’s suite!! Anyone who knows anything about Archer is thinking “how did that happen? What brave soul would adopt Archer?” With his aggression history, we were not sure it would ever happen either, but it did! One of our staff members adopted him. She has been in love with Archer for a long time and finally took him home. She has a good relationship with Archer and knows how to deal with him.
Archer left some big paws to fill in Carrot’s suite. Enter Hoagie. Hoagie was very cage aggressive and tried to kill anyone who came near his cage. He seemed like a good Archer replacement. However, once out of the cage Hoagie was super sweet and loved everyone. He even tried headbutting some of the cats in that room that did NOT appreciate it (Wilbur, Elijah). Carrot seemed to just ignore Hoagie and kept to himself. Within a very short time, Hoagie was adopted and gone from the room. Enter Panini and Consetta. They are both fairly easy-going cats, so there appears to be no issues with them in Suite C. Panini is very outgoing and Consetta is pretty shy. We’re hopeful Carrot will make friends with Consetta and let her know Suite C isn’t so bad.
With the nicer weather Carrot has been in his solarium a lot (of course), along with Elijah and Wilbur. The trio sure loves being outside.
No health issues to report for Carrot this month, which we always like to hear.
That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, we cannot thank you enough for your continued support of Carrot, we couldn’t do it without you.
Your correspondent,
Karina
