Dear Carrot friends,
We started visiting a new Aged to Purrfection home this month, and our Carrot was the star of the show. Of course, he had to share the day with Rose, but he is used to Rose being his traveling buddy.
Our volunteers said Rose was a little shy, which is typical for Rose when she first visits a new home. It takes Rose a couple of visits before she is comfortable. Carrot, however, was not shy. I don’t think he knows the meaning of the word. Our volunteers reported Carrot was amazing in the new home, not that we would expect anything else from our little superstar. Carrot sat in laps, and didn’t want to move. Our volunteers had to keep moving him on so everyone could take a turn. Carrot also happily laid in bed with the seniors who could not sit in a chair, which makes everyone happy. Carrot gets to lay on a comfy bed and get lots of pets, and the senior gets to love and pet something warm and furry. This is the fifth home we have added to the Aged to Purrfection program, so the therapy cats are really busy these days — but they don’t seem to mind at all!
This week Carrot came back from an Aged to Purrfection visit and the volunteers who took him said he was a naughty boy! They said Carrot had been walking around in his harness, sitting on people’s laps, and generally having a fabulous time. One of the volunteers put Carrot in the stroller to move on to the next area, but Carrot didn’t want to be in the stroller; he wanted to walk! As soon as they put him in the stroller he leapt out, and managed to lose his harness at the same time. Just imagine Carrot loose and running around the senior home! Luckily he was easy to grab; he loves the attention too much to go very far away, but trying to put his harness back on was a different story. He liked the freedom and didn’t want to go back into the harness, so he wiggled and squirmed to try to avoid the harness. The volunteers ended up getting it back on him, then resumed their tour of the senior home.
One of Carrot’s suitemates, Snoop, got moved to another suite. There are many outsized personalities in Suite C, and Snoop was often involved in the fights in the room. We don’t think Snoop was starting fights, but he also will not back down, which just escalates the situation. So Snoop moved over to Suite B to try to bring a little more peace to Carrot’s room. I don’t think Carrot and Snoop ever hung out together, so I’m sure Carrot won’t miss him.
Carrot is back to being in his solarium all the time, and he has been much calmer than last month when he was constantly zooming around like crazy. This month he seems to be doing his usual things – begging for treats, enjoying some pets, or relaxing in his solarium with his friends.
The new medication seems to be helping Carrot pass stool easier, and since we changed to a powder supplement in his food (instead of the dreaded pill) he is much happier and not trying to avoid us at all costs.
We have our annual Chip or Treat event coming up on Saturday, October 26th from noon till 4 pm. This event is a free microchipping event, but it is also a chance to tour around Tabby’s Place and give the cats special treats. Carrot said he would like everyone to stop by and give him all the treats. If you would like to get your pet microchipped you can register here.
That’s all the Carrot news for now. As always, thank you all for your continued support of Carrot. We couldn’t do any of this without you.
Your correspondent,
Karina
