Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot friends,

Our Carrot’s stardom grows and grows. This month, as well as attending his usual Aged to Purrfection visits, Carrot also went to visit an elementary school. Our Tabby’s Place veterinarian, Dr. Collins, was giving a talk to 3 classes, and we thought it would be great to have a therapy cat there too.

Carrot was the obvious choice, of course, because we know from past experience that he can handle excited kids, and really enjoys the attention. So he spent a whole afternoon hanging out at school, relaxing while Dr. Collins was talking, then getting lots of lots of pets and love from all the children.  One of our wonderful Aged to Purrfection volunteers took Carrot over to the school for the afternoon, and she said he did absolutely wonderfully. No big surprise there, we knew he would!

Carrot has also been to 3 of our 4 senior homes so far in the last month, and he goes again next week. He is a very busy boy, with a full schedule. His schedule is about to get even busier because we are about to add our 5th home to Aged to Purrfection. I am truly amazed at how well this program has grown. A year ago we were excited to have one senior home to visit, and by September we will have five! This is such a feel-good program, and the seniors get so much out of our visits, so we want to do as much as possible, and make more seniors smile.

Carrot will be the first cat to visit the new home and check it out with his sidekick, Rose. I always send them first, because they are the most easygoing, and always do well in new situations. Rose is usually a little shy on the first visit somewhere, but not Carrot. Carrot doesn’t know how to be shy. Every new place is a new adventure, and every new person is a new friend.
Carrot won’t mind being extra busy with the new home—I think he would go out for visits every day if he could.

With Aged to Purrfection growing so much I wanted to organize where we keep all the supplies they need for each trip. Each cat who visits the senior home needs a harness, a leash, and a Therapy Cat bandana. So I got some Tupperware and made each of the ATP cats their own “wardrobe” (pictures attached). They are like our own little superstars.

All this fame is going to Carrot’s head a little bit though. He is getting to be a bit of a bully to some of the cats in his suite. We have had a few reports of Carrot bullying some of his suitemates lately, and it’s Carrot who is starting it! He is still sweet Carrot with his friend, Sparkly, and some of his other solarium dwellers, but he has been picking on some of the other cats.

Not much medical news for Carrot, which is always a good thing. He had an ear infection, which resolved quickly with medication, and we added in a stool softener medication each day, to make it easier for him to pass stool.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. Thank you all for your support of our superstar, we couldn’t do any of this without your support. I look forward to telling you all about Carrot’s adventures in the new senior home.
