Update for Carrot

Dear Carrot friends,

Carrot spent his month in his usual fashion: making seniors smile. He visited all 3 senior facilities this month and loved every minute of it.

Sometimes the homes get quite loud, with lots of excitement, yelling and shouting. On the last trip, this was particularly bad, and our volunteers reported Rose hid under the blanket in her stroller a lot, only occasionally coming out to visit with the residents.

When I asked what Carrot was doing while all the noise was going, the answer was simple. He was being Carrot. He was walking around, socializing with everyone, and sitting on the residents’ laps. I think Carrot is the ideal therapy cat; he’s always so confident and sure of himself.

Just like last time, when he was placed back in his suite, all he wanted to do was go again. He sat by the door for some time, just hoping another visit was coming up right away.

It’s a good thing Carrot loves these visits, because soon he and his friends are going to have even more work to do. We just added another senior residence to Aged to Purrfection. Carrot will be the first one to go, of course. He is the star of the program, so we send him to test things out. The new home visits start in June, so we are very excited to be expanding this wonderful program even further.

I have mentioned before, we also visit a rehab place. While this is mostly seniors, there are some younger people needing rehab. The picture I am including shows Carrot and Rose at the rehab facility, helping one of the residents feel better. The guy in the picture looks forward to their visits so much, and he always spends a lot of time with them.

The last few times I went into Carrot’s suite, he has been inside. It’s not like Carrot to be inside, especially on nice days. And right by his side was his girl, Sparkly. They are usually both solarium dwellers, so it’s strange to see them both inside. There are two very plush, comfortable beds inside, though, and Carrot and Sparkly have been making the most of them.

He’s no teenager (even though he acts like one), but Carrot developed a bit of chin acne this month. We will scrub this as needed (and do our best not to tell his prom date). Carrot also had one incidence of blood in his stool. If this continues, we will start him on medication. So far he seems to be back to normal, with no further issues.

Suite C‘s resident bruiser, Wilbur, has developed a very annoying habit. Whenever we are expressing Carrot’s bladder, Wilbur runs over and sticks his face in Carrot’s face. He doesn’t do anything aggressive, thank goodness, but it’s like he’s checking to be sure Carrot is OK. It is quite unnerving, though, and I’m always ready for a fight to break out. Luckily, Carrot doesn’t seem to mind the company while being expressed.

That’s all the Carrot news for now. I look forward to telling you all about Carrot’s adventures at the new senior home. Thank you all for your continued support of Carrot. We couldn’t do this without you!
