This month, even Carrot has his work cut out for him when it comes to winning over some of the newcomers to his suite. If he thought Misty and Leah were going to be tough, he’d better brace himself for impact when we release Smitten in the next few days.
Smitten may be Carrot’s biggest challenge in his lifetime. She hates, hates, hates other cats. We are doing a very slow introduction to the suite for her. She is currently crated in the room, which we hope will desensitize her to the other cats’ existence. If anyone can win her over, though, we know it’s Carrot. As you’ll remember, many months ago, Spumoni hated cats too, but now he and Carrot snuggle every single day.
There have been many new faces joining Carrot’s suite lately, some friendly, some not so friendly. Leila will sometimes hiss if cats get too close. Sweet Sable doesn’t want to venture out of her cage yet, even though the door is open. Bud is a sweet and mellow guy who loves everyone — I think he and Carrot could become good friends.
Then there’s Puzzle, who is and isn’t new. Puzzle was adopted from Tabby’s Place several years ago, but, sadly, his owner recently passed away. Poor Puzzle is very shy and has been hiding in the tunnel between the suite and solarium since his return. This confuses Carrot very much, because Carrot likes to be able to pass between both places whenever he wants to, and now there is a cat in his way. I think Carrot needs to teach Puzzle that life is fun, and you can’t waste it hiding in tunnels.

One of our awesome volunteers took a video of Carrot just being Carrot, so I thought you would like to see your boy being his usual adorable self. In case you can’t see the video above, you can check it out by clicking here.
I can’t believe the cats still want to be outside in the tropical rain forest weather we have been having — but they do, and Carrot is no exception. I nearly melt every time I step outside, and they are all laying out there in the sun!
In the last few days, we have had some torrential rain with thunder and lightning. While it was storming, I walked down the hallway to check and ensure that everyone was OK. Some cats had headed inside to the quiet of the suites, but a few were still outside. Carrot, of course, was one of them. I found Carrot and Sam watching the rain with fascination, and they were certainly not afraid. (Meantime, I’m sure my 100 lb. German Shepherd was cowering and trying to hide under the bed!).
Carrot has enjoyed a healthy month, and he continues to tolerate having his bladder expressed.
As always, thank you for helping us give Carrot a wonderful place to call home. We couldn’t do it without you.
