Update for Adam

Happy August, Friends!

Adam and I hope that you are enjoying these waning summer days.  I have spent a bit more time with Adam this month since I have been subbing at Tabby’s Place for volunteers who are away on vacation.  I have loved every minute!

Healthwise, Adam is still having some difficulty.  He remains under close supervision.  Our boy has days when he appears to be having neck and back pain resulting in ataxia, which is a loss of full control of bodily movements.  The staff does suspect something is going on in his brain, but since he is not a candidate for surgery, they are doing what they can to keep him comfortable.  He gave everyone a bit of a scare when he developed diarrhea and became dehydrated. This has since been resolved, but he is being monitored for changes.

In terms of behavior, Adam is still the goof that he always has been.  I don’t see that side of him too often, but I am hearing tales from other volunteers about his naughtier behavior lately.  He likes to help with the cleaning of his suite.  Strangely, I clean Suite A on Saturdays and he never bothers me at all when I clean.  However, when other volunteers clean, he often gets underfoot or tries to run out of the door into the hallway.  He often chases the broom around or hops onto the clean linen or litter pans just as the volunteer is trying to put them where they belong.  He is quite the character when he wants to be.

Lately, the weather has been really hot and muggy here in New Jersey.  Adam is often found in the tube going between the suite and the solarium.  It’s almost as if he isn’t sure whether or not he wants to be outside where it is hot or inside in the cool.  His good buddies are outside, but the air conditioning is inside!

Things are a bit different in Suite A this month.  Carbon, the little black kitty who drove Adam crazy with his antics, has been adopted.  This is wonderful for Carbon who needed someone who could give him love 24 hours a day.  This is also wonderful for the other cats in Suite A because Carbon’s energy was a bit much for them all.  A new little black kitty named Mishush has moved in.  She is a bit of a spitfire too, but in a different way.  The cats seem more relaxed around her and she tends to mind her own business when it comes to the felines in the room.  Humans are another story altogether!

Adam and I hope that the rest of your summer is relaxing and enjoyable.  We are excited to see Quinn’s Corner growing and becoming a reality as the construction is truly underway.  Thank you for all that you do to make everything possible for Adam and for the other cats who benefit so much from your generosity.  We’ll be back next month with more Adam stories!
