Update for Adam

Update for Adam

Happy March, friends!  Adam and I hope this update finds you well and looking forward to a lovely spring.

Our boy has had a rough couple of weeks.  Following a bit of weight loss and GI upset, he was found to be dehydrated.  We treated him with fluids and have adjusted his medications.  Poor Adam also needed an enema during this tough period.  Fortunately, blood work and X-rays were both completely normal.  If Adam’s struggles continue, we will follow up with an abdominal ultrasound.

Due to not feeling well, Adam has had a quiet month.  He has spent a lot of time sleeping and taking care of himself.  It is not unusual for Adam to sleep a lot, especially when the weather isn’t so lovely, but this has been a different kind of sleep. He is definitely not his adorable, perky self.  He has been very quiet, almost listless, and has not wanted pets or snuggles much at all.

During the first weekend of March, he seemed to be feeling a lot better.  One of the children from the Paws to Read program enjoyed reading in Suite A, and Adam was active and eager to be read to.  He loves when the kids come in to visit with him.  He had a great afternoon playing with the little girl and her mom and hearing some fun stories.  I thought that he was well on his way to better health and was becoming his old self again.

This past weekend, though, Adam was again not acting like himself.  He was sleeping and not wanting to be disturbed.  One of the tour guides took a woman who sponsors Adam’s suitemate Pepita in to meet her.  Adam usually comes running to greet new people, but he stayed asleep in his cubby.  The volunteer even tried to rouse him, but he wasn’t interested.  I went in to see if he was okay.  I talked softly to him and petted him a little.  He lifted his head and looked very sweetly at me and gave me kisses on my hand.  The kisses were lovely but rather unusual for Adam.

A little while later, the son of our vet tech wanted to play with Adam, so I went in the room with him to see if Adam wanted to play.  Adam loves kids and usually wakes right up to engage with them, but not this time.  I did talk to our vet tech about Adam, and she told me that she would keep an eye on him.  He wasn’t acting as sick as he had been earlier in the month, but he was definitely not acting like the tabby wonder that we all know and love.

I have to say that I am a bit concerned about Adam.  I’m glad that his tests so far have shown nothing of significance.  I hope this is just a bug of some sort that seems to be hanging on.  I will certainly keep a close eye on Adam and will be back with another update next month, hopefully with some better news for our boy.  Adam sends you his love and thanks for all that you do for him.  Nose kisses and head butts until next month, friends.
