Gratuitous Cat Photo of the Day: board of hearts edition

110930-gatsbyFollowing yesterday‘s final photo, you may be asking yourself one question.

Who do you think you are, collecting your jar board of hearts?

Well, I’ll tell you who we are (and I apologize for the especially cheesy musical reference there). We are the land of 1,000 adoptions.

Santa’s come early and often to Tabby’s Place this year. By “Santa” I mean “legions of jolly adoption-inclined individuals who do not necessarily wear red, hurry down chimneys, and/or possess bellies prone to shaking like bowls full of jelly.” (They do, on the other hand, universally like cookies and own octets of flying reindeer. But I digress.) Our slews of Santas have been adopting up a storm, and there’s no sign of a slowdown. So today, we tip our red stocking caps to these Santadopters, and especially to their feline Santa babies…

Tortina makes good, #1: elegant Kathryn was adopted into a family with other regal-sounding felines. How right it is that our little princess should join creatures called Isabella, Abigail and Stella. Bon voyage, your majesty.

Tortina makes good, #2: sweet-faced Sophie joined Tabby’s Place alumni Alvin and Sharona in a home full of love.

Tortina makes good, #3: did anyone really expect it would be long before the teeniest tortie, Victoria, found victory? Didn’t think so.

That’s around the time things started to get big…Thanksgiving-turkey-big – no, make that Thanksgiving-parade-balloon-big. Maybe a photo will suffice where words fail me:

Yup. Artex-level big.
Yup. Artex-level big.

The big  huge  enormous epically colossal guy may be big enough to shift the earth’s center of gravity. But more than that, he rocked the orbit of a certain stellar couple, who made room in their heart and homes for one gargantuan cat.

And making room for Artex is no small matter. I suspect they probably had to get rid of all their furniture.

But size isn’t everything, so the Santadopters also found favor with the tiniest orinch puff. Actually, “favor” is the wrong word. “Manic-panic mad fabulous zesty zeal” might be more appropriate. When baby Bobbi appeared in a little local newspaper as the county’s “adoptable pet of the week,” the phone started ringing at Tabby’s Place the minute the first paper hit the first front porch. Actually, that phone hasn’t stopped ringing for Bobbi. So if you’re reading this and you want her: I’m sorry. Because Bobbi is already blissed-out in her forever home.

Bobbi, the face that launched a thousand ships...er, adoption applications.

But lest you accuse us of favoring the orange and orange-streaked sort of cats, I direct you to two decidedly un-orange kittens who were adopted together. Micah and Oneida aren’t siblings by birth, but time spent together in the Tabby’s Place nursery has made them family at heart. Now they share the same forever family of Santadopters, and they’re home for Christmas.

Now if that face doesn't squeal, "I'll be home for Christmas...if only in my dreams," what does? (And don't say Bing Crosby.)

May this deluge of joy sprinkle some glitter on your Friday. And a word to the wise for all you would-be adopters: the cats are finding homes at a Rudolph-esque speed this December. If you’ve got your heart set on someone, you’d best hurry your sleigh to Ringoes this weekend…

PS: Yes, eagle-eyed friends, that is Gatsby pictured at the start of this post, and he was adopted too – by Charlotte‘s mama. Dara was adopted as well, and Ward, and Liberty, and – just today – Pedro. Get ’em while they’re hot, folks.

  1. Cool beans (or whatever else Artex likes to eat) on Artex getting adopted after having only been w/Tabby’s place for a little under 2 months ( is this some sort of record or something?)

  2. Lynnwebb — I do agree about the beans but I also think Artex likes to eat anything in his path (rivaled only by our stella Ike, but I digress…). Pedro? I never even got to see that amazing little face! Merry Christmas to all these wonderful new adopters and special new cat homes — what better gift, I ask you?
