Epilogues: May 2023

On any given morning, we may find that the world is large and looks like an angry finger-painting.

This is when we’re grateful that Tabby’s Place is a world within the world.

Briar, Berry, Pumpkin and Marchand

Being a month populated by humans, May was the usual blur of mud puddles and miracles.

Someone not too far from Tabby’s Place abandoned four hundred pounds of innocent pasta. Someone named Oramlobbied for us to rewrite our bylaws, changing the mission statement to “a sanctuary for farfalle in hopeless situations.”

Someone discovered an extremely rare rainbow sea slug. Someone named Wilbur suggested that someone should investigate what extremely rare rainbow sea slugs taste like over farfalle.

Someone pushed your buttons or pulled your tail. The entire brokenhearted world kneaded your heart and needed your heart.

And at the heart of it all, Tabby’s Place told stories of the world within the world:

Arrived: Marchand, Briar, Berry, Pumpkin, Pascal, MooMoo, Claire, Whisk, Fusion, Fission, Kooky, Loony, Wacky, Shauna, Van, Travis

With Mother of the Millennium, Patches

Adopted: Paddy, Imelda, Firestone, Wooderson, Mayhem, Shiloh, Fiona, Wallaby, Lego, Kika, Spork, Crumpet, Simone, Julian, Wilbur (OH MY STARS ALL MY STARS YES REALLY MORE ON THIS SOON), Jeffrey

Forever Foster Fabulosity: Mortimer, with the luminous Jae

Returned: Betty (not that Betty)

Swapped: Gator and Denali

Promoted to Heaven: Rapscallion, Mortimer (on whom more soon)

Travis has only just begun his Tabby’s Place adventure…

Stuff We Learned: Lost isn’t. Pickles can open any jar of hearts. And common kittens find uncommon grace in your face. Yours, freckles and chin hairs and all.

You, dear ones, boarded the mothership without fear. You cherished kittens to life and victory, one selfless gift at a time. You loved with rebel mercy. Be careful: that stuff will build a better world, if we let it.

It’s not half as far-fetched as farfalle.

Thank you from my depths, Tabby’s Place family.

And, very important: do not forget that tonight is the Strawberry Moon. We only get one a year, so commence your jamboree accordingly.
