There are two kinds of people in this world: those who like to give their cats traditional people-names and those who choose to not do that. At Tabby’s Place, having reached over 5,000 one-time and current residents with an enormous number of namers (staff, volunteers, Jonathan himself, and more), many Tabby’s Place cats share their names with people.
Perhaps you know a person named Prescott. Perhaps person-Prescott is as posh and pretty as cat-Prescott, who is the only dual-citizen (She shares her time between the lobby and the community room. Prescott insists.) in the entire building. Perhaps, as our Prescott claims, your Prescott is an Ivy Leaguer who attended Brown University. Perhaps your Prescott also hails from somewhere in the vicinity of Providence, RI (ALL of Rhode Island is in the vicinity of Providence. It is, after all, the biggest little state in the union as touted in an ancient commercial.). And, perhaps, person-Prescott also carries on about riding in cahs and drinking from bubblahs in the heaviest of New England accents.
Or, maybe, just maybe, you have a family member who is such a big fan of the original Star Wars trilogy that you count a person-Leia among those whom you hold dear. And, maybe, just maybe, you are already aware of Leia, a cat who has bewitching eyes and is absolutely enchanting. Maybe your person-Leia also has allergies and, ergo, a carefully controlled diet. Maybe your person-Leia is also luxuriously quaffed in beautiful grey fur. Okay, maybe that is a stretch of the imagination. But, cat-Leia does not wear her hair in a cinnamon-bun style that evokes the height of 1977 cinematography. So, pardon the reach for common ground.
Instead, let us reach for the uncommon. In the uncommon room that is the community room where morning meetings are held and all sorts of work gets done, there reside Gigi and Dahlia. Perchance you know persons who bear these names. Perchance one of them wears a pink necklace that matches Gigi’s perfectly pink little collar. Perchance someone of your acquaintance has an affinity for flowers and so named a person in your circle. Dahlia and Gigi would be delighted to meet their person-namesakes and compare preferred pastimes. Gigi enjoys slow introductions and careful conversations. Dahlia delights in wand time and being doted upon. Both love hearing about gardening exploits and any other happy news.
Now, if gardening is not your thing, possibly you have a musical bent or you know persons who were named by other persons who do. Possibly, you know an Oliver! (The exclamation point is requisite!) Oliver!-cat is neither street urchin nor pickpocket. What he does steal, though, are hearts. Oliver! sings to every passing tour group and any person who will spend time with him. In the next suite over Rihanna is music to one’s ears and eyes (Yes, she is music to one’s eyes. Trust. It’s real.). Do you know a Rihanna-person, who is not-so-much famous, but who still is as much a melody in your life as Rihanna-cat is to Tabby’s Place?
Or, possibly, do you know a Bruno-person?
Can we please talk about Bruno?
You likely know of a musically inclined, famous Bruno-person who was featured on one of the happiest songs ever. Okay, definitely Bruno-cat won’t come out to sing and dance like that. But, as with his animated-person namesake, Bruno-cat is absolutely magical and musical and tends to hide out of sight. A single slow blink is enough to make a whole person-body drum with joy.
If your heart is not yet thrumming joyously, could there be a person named Lucy in your life, whom you should think about a bit? There is a cat Lucy at Tabby’s Place. She may not linger in the sky, but there are diamonds glittering in her eyes. Also, Lucy-cat prefers a mystical approach to interactions with persons. Mystical means go slowly. It takes time for true magic to happen. Like Rihanna and Bruno, Lucy is FIV+. She is also a positively plush tabby who, like all of these potential namesakes, would thrive in a forever home.
If you are looking to forever love your own namesake (or the one of someone else you love), consider filling out an adoption questionnaire and meeting with one of our adoption counselors. Or, schedule a tour or visit to learn more about Tabby’s Place and to find out if there is a Tabby’s Place cat with your own name. Whether or not you share his name, Trent would love to greet you in the lobby. Come on by! Seriously! Trent insists.
