Update for Thomas

Greetings to Team Thomas,

Angela here, Tabby’s Place Development Director, gleefully pinch-hitting for your faithful correspondent Stephanie.

First of all, my sincere apologies for scaring you by sending a “special update.” Rest assured: our boy Thomas is alive and well. Matter of fact, he’s more “well” than he’s been in a long time…maybe ever. Today’s news comes a tad late for Chanukah, Christmas and Kwanzaa, but right on time to give Thomas the sweetest New Year imaginable.

You guessed it: His Orangeness has been adopted!!!

I knew as soon as I was introduced to Mrs. Awesome Adopter that she was…well, an awesome adopter. “I’d like to adopt a cat who might be a little harder to adopt,” she explained. “Maybe two buddies who really love each other.” Would Special Needs be a deal-breaker? “Not at all.”

As it turns out, Mrs. Awesome Adopter has loved many Special Needs cats in the past – and loved them very well. Whether tenderly administering subcutaneous fluids or helping a wobbly feline to get around her home, Mrs. Awesome Adopter knows how to give a Special Needs cat the forever home of a lifetime.

Something about Thomas caught her eye immediately. “Ooh,” remarked Mrs. Awesome Adopter’s equally awesome friend. “He’s orange. This one’s very nice.”

“Very,” agreed Mrs. Awesome Adopter. Thomas proceeded to stretch out his considerable charms, nuzzling her hand and blinking those gentle yellow eyes. If his golden gaze could speak, it clearly sang, “I love you already!”

As a thoughtful potential cat parent, Mrs. Awesome Adopter wanted to meet a number of other furry contenders. But, after falling in love with nearly every cat at Tabby’s Place, Mrs. Awesome Adopter just couldn’t stop thinking of Thomas.

We made her well aware of all his needs, his advanced age and his history – but, quite honestly, I think we could have told her that Thomas is a war criminal, and she still would have taken him. It was love. When it’s meant to be, nothing can stop it.

Sweetening the deal is the fact that Thomas goes to his meant-to-be home along with a dear friend: none other than Jimmy. Mrs. Awesome Adopter wanted a pair of bonded buddies, and that’s exactly what she got. As soon as Thomas and Jimmy began grooming and head-bonking each other, it was all over but the adoption contract.

As I type this e-mail, Jimmy and Thomas are probably just settling into their new, forever home. They will be cherished with the love of a lifetime, and they will have their very own mama to adore them all of their days. As for Mrs. Awesome Adopter, we can only imagine what a happy, love-and-laughter filled home she has to look forward to with her two golden boys. It’s a New Year’s miracle.

Beloved sponsors, this is a miracle in which you have played a major role. You have cared so generously and lovingly for Thomas in his years at Tabby’s Place, and you will always be a very beautiful part of his story. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this day possible.
