Update for Stafford

Hello, Stafford fans!

It’s time for a monthly update on our beautiful boy.

First, the medical news. Like many felines, Stafford loves his food, so when he stopped eating (and subsequently lost weight) over the past month, we became quite concerned. Our vet team discovered that Stafford was extremely constipated, so much so that he required several enemas to clear up this condition. Fortunately, he seems to have made a complete recovery. We’ll watch him carefully, but we’re all hoping that this was a one-time occurrence (not the least Stafford, I’m sure!).

Stafford continues to be an ideal companion to roommate Sherbet, whose health has us very worried indeed. There are times when Stafford’s tolerance of her actions borders on the incredible; we are simply not accustomed to one cat leaning on or sleeping on top of another without some sort of reaction, even a minor one. But Stafford seems content to be a calm, reassuring presence to his roommate.

After only a short time in our Aged to Purrfection program, Stafford is already exceeding my expectations for becoming a big hit with the senior citizens he visits. This is no surprise to us, given his gentle, sunny nature. On a recent visit to a senior community, both Stafford and Tux hopped out of their strollers and jumped up on either side of a bedridden, non-verbal resident to cuddle up for a while. My understanding is that the man, while unable to speak, clearly showed his delight in the cats’ actions.

We’re happy that Stafford is turning out to be such a fine ambassador, and nobody needs language to communicate what wonderful effect cats can have on people. It’s because you have chosen to help us care for our Stafford that we can look after him so well…and he, in turn, can look after other cats and people. Thank you!
