Update for Shifty

Hello to Fans of Shifty!

It has been a good month for our boy, as his health and spirits have remained “status quo.” That status is considered a good place to be at Tabby’s Place; we are always happy to share the good news!

His roommates in the Employee/Volunteer Lounge are transitioning to regular foods now instead of specialized medical diets.  This is due to an improvement in the overall suite’s health and maintenance. We are hopeful that Shifty will keep his svelte figure on what is a higher-calorie but more delicious diet.

Shifty keeps his spirits up by watching the outdoors from his perch on the cat tree.  Here, he can watch the comings and goings of staff and volunteers.  It is a nice, cool spot for him, and also a perfect snooze place.  As you can see by the photos I have included, Shifty has many favored siesta locations in his suite.  It is fun for us volunteers to see which one he has chosen on a given day.

Speaking of volunteers, Shifty has a favorite person (other than his correspondent, of course) with whom he loves to visit.  Volunteer Russell has been a hard-working team member here at Tabby’s Place for a very long time.  Russ is totally dedicated to the cats and well-being of Tabby’s Place, and does the toughest of jobs: cleaning!  It is vital to the health of the cats that we keep Tabby’s Place as clean and sanitary as possible.  Russ puts in many, many hours each week to help us to do just that; in fact, he puts in SO many hours that he repeatedly wins the annual award for the most hours devoted to Tabby’s Place service by a volunteer!

But what does Russ do with his “spare time?”

He spends it with “his man” Shifty!

It is so heart-warming to see the friendship that has developed between these fellows!  As you can see by the photo sent along, Russ and Shifty have a special “man-thing” going on.  They are best buds, and truly enjoy each other’s company.  The Employee/Volunteer Lounge is where you will find Russ at the end of his shift, visiting with his pal before he goes home.

It is very hard not to have favorites at Tabby’s Place; we all do.  But when that affection is returned 100 % from the cat, it makes it super-special to those of us who devote so much time here.  We arrive thinking of that favorite; we leave thinking of that favorite.  Your heart drops just a beat when you have to do so. You pray that the cat will be ok until you return, but know that it is in the very best of hands at Tabby’s Place until you do.

Today, I would like to thank Russ for everything he does to lift Shifty’s spirits and for the emotional support he provides to him.

I thank YOU, his most generous sponsors, for YOUR support that goes so very far in making Shifty the best cat he can be.

Your Correspondent,
Kim
