Update for Sherbet

Social news: turns out that Sherbet’s new roommate, Opa (see photo below), loves Shebs.
Opa often follows Sherbet around like a younger brother, looking for opportunities to head butt or rub against his orange friend.
He also enjoys sharing food dishes with Sherbet. This is all so cute. But, Sherbet seems to be tolerating the attention and not particularly enjoying it.
Thought I did snap the other photo on this page, which might be evidence of a closer bond?

In any case, I am glad that Sherbet has an office mate that not only does not smack him, but cares for him.

Medical news:
We have become concerned about Sherbet’s recent weight loss.
Our vet doesn’t think there is any relation to the cancer (even given the possibility that there are still some cancerous cells under his eye).

A physical exam showed nothing of concern, so our medical team ran some blood work.
Nothing alarming showed up, though his kidney values are a little worse.
His thyroid level is at the low end of the normal range, so we have decided to “tune” his thyroid level by lowering his dosage of methimazole until his level hits the high end of the normal range.

This is based on the empirical observation that a higher thyroid level leads to increased blood flow, which means more blood pumped to the kidneys, thus improving their function.
We have done this before with good results, so we are hopeful for Sherbs.
I hope to have more info for you in the next update.
