Update for Rufus

Happy May to you!

I hope life is good wherever you are. My world here in Ringoes, New Jersey is slowly morphing into Spring. I have been patrolling our solarium quite a bit lately, and I am enjoying the warmer temperatures. I love watching all of the leaves popping out on the branches of trees and the flowers blooming every day. I get to breathe some fresh air, and best of all, I get some personal space.

Sometimes I sit up high in one of our cat trees and watch all the goings-on. I am attaching a picture to this update that shows my focused stare out into the yard behind Tabby’s Place. A lot happens out there, and it is endlessly entertaining to watch it all go by!

But as soon as anyone comes through the solarium door, I am the first cat to greet them. I love visitors! My correspondent laughs sometimes because I am so enthusiastic in my greetings. I just get so happy! I walk around and around her legs in circles, rubbing my face against her as I go. I know that volunteers are warned not to interact with me until they are trained by our kitty behaviorist, but I don’t know what they are so worried about. I do get overstimulated easily, and sometimes when that happens, I bite or scratch. I guess people aren’t too thrilled when I do that.

But I am slowly learning to have the patience for the love and pets I so deeply crave. It’s weird, because I want the attention ever so badly, but then when I get it, I sometimes get mixed up and respond with what I’m told is “inappropriate behavior.” But I promise you that I am trying my best to learn how to be around humans and other cats without causing a hubbub.

My suitemates and I are working on our behavior, and we are even trying to get along with each other better, too. I think we have quite a long way to go, but I am hopeful. I have two new roomies, JJ and Jake, and they seem pretty mellow and easy to get along with.

The other picture I am attaching to this update shows me in the cat tree, gazing up at my correspondent with love in my eyes. That love is for you too, sponsors! I feel so incredibly lucky to have you out there, helping to make sure I have everything I need. I thank you with every fiber of my tiger-striped being.

Enjoy your month, and I will update you again soon!

Love,
Rufus
