Dear Friends,
Hi y’all, even if I shut my eyes, I can sense in my li’l black-and-white body that fall is on its way. Subtle changes are here such as the temperatures getting a bit cooler and the darkness visiting a bit earlier. I am an all-season girl, and I find happy things about each season. I love me some red and orange leaves on the trees, no disrespect for the green leaves. The seasons change but not my love for you. Thank you for being my sponsor and for always being there for me!
My adventures this month took me outdoors in the Curbside Volunteering Program, also known as “Indiana Jones Rose and the Stroller.” There is something so adventuresome and magical about riding around in a big comfy stroller, talking with a volunteer friend, feeling the fresh air on my furry face, and seeing birds and squirrels up close.
On my first adventure, I made an unexpected “new friend.” I was having a grand old time in the stroller and noticed the color drain from the volunteer’s face. I did not know what was going on, but she looked scared. In an instant, I was scooped up, brought inside the sanctuary, and rushed to the hospital. My “new friend” turned out to be a bumblebee who made his way into the stroller. We are unsure how he got into the stroller since it is zipped with me in it before leaving the sanctuary. I am a lucky kitty because the volunteer thought fast and brought me to our vet technician to be sure that I was not stung. I was fine (as was the bumblebee) and am grateful for my quick-thinking volunteer! Y’all know that bees are drawn to flowers!
Just in case I have not said it, I really enjoy stroller rides; they take me to when I lived in Suite A and would spend my days in the solarium. Fresh air makes me so happy!
On the flip side, I would not trade being a lobby cat for the world! When my volunteer friend returned the following week, she took my pal Cotton for a ride. All stroller-approved kitties take turns with stroller rides. When they returned to the lobby, she took Cotton out of the stroller. As soon as her back was turned, I became “ninja kitty,” and scaled the stroller and sat in it with a very innocent look on my face. The volunteer could not resist, and she took me for a stroller ride!
A pawsome sponsor dropped off some amazing catnip bananas (“nanas”) for yours truly. My correspondent was the keeper of the nanas, and before I went to bed, she put the nana in my night crate.
When I shut my eyes at bedtime, I clutched my nana as I thought of all the happy things that happened to me during the day. When I woke up in the morning, I was still clutching the nana. In fact, when I go for a stroller ride my nana sits right next to me.
I have a much better health report to share this month. After a special bubble bath, when I smelled as fresh as a Rose, I went to the vet specialist for a consultation. The vet put me on a new medicine that has dramatically helped with my coughing episodes. I feel so much better, and my correspondent said I look wonderful, and my eyes and fur shine. My appetite is going strong, and I never met a food dish that I did not like. Mind you, if I meet a food dish I do not like, I politely ask for a substitution, which is happily granted.
The lobby is a beehive (in honor of my stroller friend) of activity, and we cats really get along very well. I am often resting in a cat bed near the front doors with Cotton and Olive nearby.
I love watching people drop off donations outside because they wave to me and say. “Hi, Rose!” I am tickled pink! Then the fun begins when the donation is brought inside by a staff member or volunteer and I get to help inspect.
During the pandemic we have had offered “video adoptions.” The potential adopter meets the cat via video. When the adoption is approved, a staff member brings the cat and paperwork to the adopter who is waiting in the parking lot. I love watching these happy moments! Tabby’s Place is maintaining strict COVID-19 precautions to keep the humans safe.
My correspondent and I are enjoying weekly (and sometimes more) visits together, and she makes up silly songs about me. When she finishes her tasks, she takes some cute Rose pics to share with you. I hope that you enjoy!
Embrace the colors of the fall, and please stay safe. Sending you red & orange whisker kisses!
Love,
Rose
